How would John Williams sound with the use of only 1 kind of instrument ?
Here's a tribute to John for twelve French Horns.
It sounds amazing (as far as I'm concerned).

And since I just can't get enough of the Suo Gan Lullaby from Empire of the Sun, as featured above, I include the original sequence from the film as well.

The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular is finally making its way to the United States! Two performances have been announced for the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Wednesday, October 7, 2015.

The first show is scheduled for 3pm, while the second will be at 7:30pm. Both performances will be hosted the latest incarnation of The Master, Michelle Gomez. Here's what she had to say about hosting this special event:

I was a big fan of Doctor Who before I joined the cast, and I love Murray Gold's powerful and emotional soundtracks for the series. This live show has been a big hit with fans of the series in other countries, and I know that Doctor Who fans in North America have been waiting for their turn to see it. I'm so excited to be presenting the first-ever American performances, and to be doing this in the city that has become my home. I can't wait 'til this fall to see how the amazing U.S. audience reacts to the show being staged in the Big Apple. I'm honored to be a part of it.

The show features over 100 musicians and vocalists, in addition to Daleks, Cybermen, Judoon, Whispermen, and more! The performances will be conducted by Ben Foster and will be accompanied by big screen highlights of the best the last ten years of Doctor Who.

Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday, May 8, 2015 at the box office and online.

One can only hope that this is a jumping off point for a more extensive tour of the U.S. (Hint: Chicago!)

Hi everyone! I'm Steve and Rob has kindly allowed me to contribute to the site!
Star Wars is my speciality which covers two of 'The Bearded Trio' and every week, we will be bringing you a Star Wars News round up as things heat up with the upcoming releases beginning with 'The Force Awakens.' But I will be looking to bring you all types of Star Wars content, not just the movies. Basically, if its Star Wars News you will hear about it!

Now a little about me.....
I'm from London and am a young 39 years old. Other than this site, I also manage social media for the Fly Casual Podcast, and contribute to The Cantina Cast and the upcoming Comiconverse site and have a few projects in the pipeline. I'm also building some Original Trilogy Stormtrooper armour and hoping to join the 501st Legion, which is the Worlds biggest Star Wars costuming group
Growing up in the 80's and 90's 'The Bearded Trio' had a massive influence on my childhood and all my favourite movies growing up were influenced by The Bearded Trio in one way or another! So occasionally I may go off the beaten track and foray into non-Star Wars stuff, if I'm feeling adventurous
You can find me on Facebook as Steve Potter Facebook and Twitter as @spotter301u Twitter
I look forward to interacting with you and hopefully bringing you the News you want from A Galaxy Far Far Away....

The Bearded Trio are pleased to bring you brand new images and the trailer for Joe Dante's (Gremlins) latest film, BURYING THE EX.  A brand new Zombie comedy.

From Legendary Director Joe Dante BURYING THE EX Releases Digitally in the UK June 19th 2015

Ace Entertainment Films is pleased to announce that comedy/horror film BURYING THE EX from legendary director Joe Dante (Gremlins, Small Soldiers, Innerspace) will be released digitally in the UK on June 19th 2015.
burying the ex

BURYING THE EX launched at the Venice Film Festival in September, and will be available digitally in the UK and USA on June 19th, available to download and view-on-demand on major platforms.
burying the ex

BURYING THE EX stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Fright Night) as Max, an all-round nice guy, and Ashley Greene (Twighlight, The Twlight Saga: Breaking Dawn) as his overbearing but incredibly beautiful girlfriend, Evelyn. Their relationship takes a nosedive after they decide to move in together and Max realises it is time to call it quits, but there's just one problem: he's too afraid to break up with her.
Fate steps in when Evelyn is involved in a freak accident and dies, leaving Max single and ready to mingle. Several weeks later, he has a chance encounter with Olivia, played by Alexandra Daddario (Texas Chainsaw 3D, Hall Pass), a cute and spirited girl who might just be his soul mate. But that same time, Evelyn returns from the grave as a dirt-smeared Zombie and she's determined to live happily ever after with Max... even if that means turning him into one of the undead.

jaunt vr

A group of Lucasfilm veterans have come together to form a company called Jaunt.  Specialising in "cinematic VR' or virtual reality.  Their aim is to being a different form of storytelling when it comes to watching movies.

Former CTO of Lucasfilm, Cliff Plumer is leading the new studio with two other former Lucasfilm veterans, David Anderman and Miles Perkins joining at the Palo Alto office.

Recode.net tells us:

The new studio will partner with media companies, film studios and brands in Hollywood to develop live-action videos with Jaunt’s 360-degree camera and rendering technology, similar to the Paul McCartney concert clip the company released last year.
“This is still new ground,” Plumer said in an interview with Re/code. “There’s things we’re leveraging from how we’ve created movies in the past, but we want to work with existing filmmakers and show them this is a different way of storytelling.”

When it comes to my Star Wars Celebration Anaheim experience, many things stand out.  I enjoyed a variety of things from meeting colleagues and Assembly of Geeks listeners in person, to finding exclusives and adding items to my collection of Star Wars merch.  However, I also came away with a great impression of the state of Star Wars.

When it was first announced that Disney was buying Lucasfilm and making more movies, I reacted with excitement mixed with thoughtful intrigue.  I wasnt one of those people who thought Star Wars would suddenly feature Jedi breaking out into songs in the middle of movies with animated Mynocks swooping in and whistling to the tunes.  Instead, I was excited that Star Wars wasnt going away.  Yet, I had trouble visualizing what this all meant.

At the end of the day, I didnt find the acquisition that jarring of a revelation.  As I thought about it, I knew Lucas would have to pass it off to someone at some point.  So why not Disney?  They already had a long standing relationship, and Disney is doing some pretty good things with other franchises like Marvel & The Muppets.  Yet, after the divide among fans over The Prequels, I wondered how these new stories (especially Episodes VII - IX) would compare to everything else.

Before Celebration, we had already been introduced to new books, comics, Star Wars Rebels and a teaser for The Force Awakens.  At Celebration, I not only saw new movie teasers and the first episodes of Star Wars Rebels Season 2, but I also heard great things from cast members and people behind the scenes.  Take all that and the record number of people that didnt want the convention to be over this year, and you can be assured of this:

Star Wars is in really good hands.

the force awakens behind the scenes

From J.J. Abrams & Kathleen Kennedy to John Boyega & Daisy Ridleythese are people who are fans of Star Wars and care deeply about their involvement in the stories theyre about to help tell.  They care about the fans, and want to do this as right as they possibly can for all of them.

I probably dont have to tell you that people like Dave Filoni and Simon Kinberg care about what they produce within the Star Wars saga.  They are extremely methodical, keep their creativity deeply rooted in Star Wars history and are also fans.

Gareth Edwards is at the helm of what is now the first of Star Wars anthology films (not spin-offs) and hes got people plenty excited about the story infused into Rogue One.

star wars a new dawnstar wars aftermath

The books and comics continue to be successful, and many of their stories are purchased by passionate fans who want to experience even more of what The Story Group is producing.  This is especially true in the comics and novels tied to Star Wars Rebels as fans want to dig deeper into the lives of characters like Kanan and Hera.

Now we get to anticipate the release of books like Star Wars: Aftermath to find out what happened after Return of the Jedi.

Make no mistake- some of the missteps in the past will be avoided in the future.  The people working on the films, books, comics and games all have important roles to play in one consistent story.  This means you get to be as immersed as you want to be in Star Wars without missing a step.  It also means you dont have to worry about confusing and potentially damaging retcons or story elements that dont connect as well as others.

Its proof that George Lucas knew what he was doing when he handed his amazing and beloved world over to Disney.  As Star Wars fans, that is another thing we should be grateful to him for doing.

Think about it, Star Wars really couldve been over in 1983or even 2005.  Yet, here we are in 2015 and its as big as its ever been.  Just like this years Celebration, we never wanted it to be over.  While we were excited to see and hear the things we did, we wanted more.

Even though we were sad it had to end, we left knowing that there is so much to look forward to and be excited about.

That is truly one of the most important things to come out of the entire convention.

Scott Murray is a writer and content producer, as well has a host and producer of the Assembly of Geeks podcast.

Steven not only presented the Animaniacs cartoonshow, sometimes he even played a bit part.
.
In one of the earlier episodes (Hooked on a Ceiling), famous painter Michelangelo has received orders to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, but he is without inspiration. With a deadline coming nearer and nearer he accepts the assistence of The Warner Brothers (and Sister), to finish the job, before the holy father himself comes to inspect the paintjob.

The Warners erase Michelangelo's work and add a new painting, featuring Elliot and a famous extra terrestrial, justb minutes before his holyness arrives, and he turns out to be:

Voiced by Frank Welker, Spielberg gladly gives his blessing to the painting, done by Michelangelo and the Warners.

So all's well, that ends well.

Man of Steel was a bad movie.  Over-long fight scenes, bad script and lacking the iconic John Williams soundtrack.  But another thing missing was the colour.  It was toned down, probably to look darker like the other DC movies, Batman.

What if Man of Steel was in colour?  Well it would look so much better.  There is a trend these days especially with superhero movies to desaturate the colours and to tone back the costumes.  DC seems to be guilty of this more than Marvel but both do it.

Take a look at this interesting video and see how leaving the colours alone actually make the movie better on the eye.  Guardians of the Galaxy is a good example of this.  A beautiful movie and stunning to watch.  Compare that to Man of Steel which has been tempted to go towards the awful 'dark and gritty' look.  Bring back the colours.  Lets hope Batman Vs Superman is prettier.

Chris Pratt, star of the upcoming film Jurassic World, participated in a Reddit AMA today. He touched on a few different topics ranging from his role as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, Parks & Recreation - and that aforementioned dinosaur movie - to his advice for aspiring actors and his relationship with his wife, actress Anna Faris.

Here are some of the highlights, presented in no particular order.
(All questions paraphrased)

What about that behind-the-scenes video from Parks & Recreation wherein you joke about being in the next Jurassic Park movie? Did you think it would actually happen?

Thank you. I never believed I would work with Steven Spielberg on a Jurassic Park sequel. It was a joke at the time both literally and figuratively. It's been a dream to get to play these roles and work on the projects that I have.

Does Jurassic World capture the gritty feel of the previous novels?

Movies have a hard time of capturing the grittiness of a novel. Whereas novels have a hard time being done in an hour and a half. This is not a reboot. It plays as a sequel 21 years after the events of the first movie. And it deals with society's relationship with science and how much it has changed over the past couple decades. We are no longer impressed by magical and wonderful things. Imagine if dinosaurs were back, and had been around for 21 years, would anyone think they're cool anymore?

Favorite dinosaur?

Not just saying this but probably the velociraptor. They are pack hunters and super cool. But also I love the Mosasaur. That's the water dinosaur thing from the trailer that is SO F****** BADA$$! Funny story, before I got Jurassic Park I gave James Gunn a wrap gift of an authentic Mosasaur Jawbone Fossil. So basically I can control the future.

Looking forward to Jurassic World! Any advice for someone who wants to be an actor?

Hey buddy, thanks! Advice for being an actor is this: figure out whether or not you believe in yourself, and if you don't, find a way to. Because even more than you want it, you must believe it. And learn about yourself. The rhythm of one's spirit is just as important as what you look like or what you sound like. Who are you? What's your voice? What are you dying to contribute?

How did you meet your wife, Anna Faris? What drew you two together?

Anna and I are meant to be together. Our relationship has made me believe in divine intervention and destiny, just as much as my crazy career and the way I fell into this life. She and I grew up 20 minutes away from each other but never met until we met in LA. We both got our start in horror spoofs. We both did an animated movie for Phil Lord and Chris Miller. We both made our careers playing guileless nitwits for laughs. We both have parents that have suffered with MS. The similarities go on and on. Anna is a great wife. Very patient and understanding. Very supportive. So kind and genuine always. And she gave me a wonderful son and family of in laws that I truly love.

(cue the "awwwwwws....")

What's the best way to convince friends to see Jurassic World?

Tell them they don't want to be the only people on the planet not to see this movie!!!

Jurassic World opens in theaters June 12.
