polish posters

Polish movie posters have a huge fan base from movie fans thanks mainly to their unique interpretation of famous movies.  Most of these movies were released during the communist-era so the artists of the communist run countries had to take on their own interpretation of the movie that would make it pleasing to the authorities of the time.  What we get is a huge range of original poster artwork for some of the most famous movies of all time.

Over the next two days The Bearded Trio will bring you some of the best Polish movie posters relating to Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.  Today we're going to run with a Steven Spielberg theme.

Back in 1979, this piece of music confused me a lot.

It accompanied a film, The Deer Hunter, I watched over and over again because of the great acting of Christopher Walken, Rober DeNiro, John Cazale and Meryl Streep (plus the rest of the cast of course). but the thing that puzzled me the most was the fact that although the composer of this piece of (great) music bore the same name as the one who had scored Jaws and Close Encounters, he was a totally different person. (a similar thing happened a few years later when the film Mad Max was released and I found out that the music had been composed by Brian May, not the Brian May of Queen (of course), but again, that also took some time for me to find out)

Nowadays all it takes is checking on Google, but in those (prehistoric) days we mostly relied on encyclopedia and they didn't always have stills in them, so it took a while, but in the end I found out there can be more than one.

Here is a live version by (that other) John Williams himself.

Harrison Ford Heads To The Spielbergs After Hospital Stay

It seems one of the first places Harrison Ford visited after leaving hospital yesterday was the home of his pal, Steven Spielberg.

An eyewitness told E! News that the Ford was driving around the Pacific Palisades before arriving at Steven Spielberg's house!

"Harrison was driving his Tesla and seemed to be in good spirits. He was wearing a hat so there weren't any visible signs of wounds on his head," the source tells us. "He was by himself but able to drive his car normally...He arrived at Steven Spielberg's house in the late afternoon and went straight through the gate," the eyewitness adds. "He was there for many hours and stayed all through the evening. He went home after 10 p.m."

A brand-new TV spot for Jurassic World debuted over the weekend (I happened to catch it during the season finale of The Walking Dead). Most of it is footage we've seen already, but there were a few brief glimpses that were new to me. Check it out for yourself below:

Jurassic World hits theaters on June 12. We're almost there!

Maisie Williams, well-known to fans of Game of Thrones fans as Arya Stark, will be joining the crew of the TARDIS when she guest stars on an upcoming episode of Doctor Who.

"I'm so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it's such a big and important part of British Culture. I can't wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we'll be shooting not too far from my home town," said Williams.
Steven Moffat had this to say about the show's latest guest star:

"We're thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It's not possible to say too much about who or what she's playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell."
Well, I'm on board! It sounds like she's going to be memorable character.

Doctor Who is currently filming series 9, which is set to air some time this fall.

In the meantime, you can see Maisie in the new season of Game of Thrones, which premieres on HBO April 12.

One of the many Indiana Jones Fan-films that can be found on YouTube these days.
This one however features a very young cast just as was the case in the early Spielberg films.

(And, since I'm Dutch, I love the fact that Indy even uses a bike during one of his chases.)

Today we celebrate the 72nd birthday of the Greek Composer and Performer Evangelos Odysseus Papathanassiou, or, as we have come to know him: Vangelis.
As a self thought musician, he can't read or write notes, Vangelis has been composing music since the early age of four.
Starting of as a performer, who worked almost solely with electronic music instruments, he worked a lot with fellow musician John Anderson. Since the mid 60's he also delivered film-scores for (mostly) Greek films and documentaries. That changed however when he started working on international films at the end of the 70's.

In 1981 he won the Academy Award for the music he composed for the British drama Charriots of Fire and this marked his launch as an international wanted composer.

In the next few years he delivered the scores for Costa Gavras' gripping drama Missing, followed by Ridley Scott's Blade Runner.

Nowadays his main focus lies with documentaries, but lots of filmmakers gladly make use of his musical library. DreamWorks gladly used his theme from Charriots of Fire in both the feature Old School as well as in the the animated smash Madagascar.

Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx in Collateral

Director Michael Mann used the theme Moxica & His Horse, which was written and performed by Vangelis himself, for his thriller Collateral.
For someone who claims not being able to read or write music, that's guite an accomplishment, I think

And for those who are not familliair with his Academy Award Winning score for Charriots of Fire, watch it below.

Happy Birthday Vangelis.

Ronny.

Now this is super cool.  A Star Wars fan has taken a quadcopter and converted it into a fully working Speeder Bike as seen in the Richard Marquand directed, Return of the Jedi.  The bike was used from an old Hasbro model and even has a camera on it for our enjoyment.  Watch out for those Ewoks

I SO want one of thse.

45 Years ago today, on March 28th 1970, Vince Vaughn was born in Minneapolis, Minnasota, USA. He was raised in Lake Forest Illinois. He was interested in theater at a very young age and at age 18 he moved to Hollywood, to make it to the big screen.

He made his first (credited) appearance in a film in 1993 in the film Rudy. He became friends with co-star Jon Favreau and ultimately starred in his debut as a screenwriter, Swingers. The film was praised by the critics but wasn't a commercial success.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Steven Spielberg saw the film however and offered Vince the part of Nick van Owen in his  Jurassic Park sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park. This time Vince hit it big and was a brand name.

He played a variety of characters over the years, including a couple for/with DreamWorks.

Perry Reevesm, Will Ferell, Luke Wilson
and Vince Vaughn in Old School

In 2003 he co-starred as Beanie in the comedy-hit Old School, along with Luke Wilson, Will Ferell, Jeremy Piven and Sean William Scott.

An angry-looking bunch of men, lead by Vince Vaughn
in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

In 2004 had an uncredited , bit-part in the surprise-hit Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, portraying Wes Mantooth, once more opposite Will Ferell. (He reprised his part a few years ago in the sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.)

Chris Pratt opposite Vince Vaugn in Delivery Man

Only two years ago he was the leading man in DreamWorks' underperforming The Delivery Man.

Later this years he will be starring in the second season of HBO's hit-series True Detective.

Happy Birthday Nick, eh... Vince !

Before Richard Williams directed the animation for Who Framed Roger Rabbit ?, there was an earlier attempt at the Disney-Studio's, from 1981 to 1983, to adapt Gary K. Wolf’s book “Who Censored Roger Rabbit ?” into a feature. The animation was to be supervised by Darrell Van Citters and Paul Reubens.

However, a few years later, when Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, Robert Zemeckis and animator Richard Williams had entered the production, Roger Rabbit had to do a screen-test, just like all the regular actors...

lucas museum

Melissa Harris from ChicagoTribune.com is reporting that the problems George Lucas and his museum dream is getting from local preservationists is over nothing more than parking lots.

The great irony is that a litigious group of local preservationists is waging a legal battle to protect parking lots ... from an art museum.

Not to mention, it's well-funded by Star Wars creator George Lucas, replete with one of the world's finest collections of Norman Rockwell illustrations, movie posters and cutting-edge digital illustrations and fine art.

Friends of the Parks, meanwhile, is living in a land of fairies and other magical creatures.

No matter how often or how loudly the group's leaders call for more green space, if this museum isn't built between Soldier Field and the city's convention center, those parking lots are never going to be anything other than they are now: a concrete dock for Bears tailgaters to guzzle beers and grill bratwurst a few Sundays a year.

Two months ago today, production was wrapped on the final episode of Falling Skies, the TNT/DreamWorks/Amblin TV-series that will end it's five year run this coming summer.

A shot before the Special Effects are added

Not much is known about the final season, other than that it will consist of 10 episodes and that they will air on TNT,somewhere during next Summer.

In an interview, Drew Roy only shared a small teaser: "In this final season we, as most everybody tries to do,wrap up what we have laid down. We are in the process of taking all the little strands, bringing them back together, and tying something up. Hopefully we'll have a decent looking bow at the end."

Actor Doug Jones in his Cochise make-up

Filming for this final season hasn't been easy however. In September production was shut down for a short period of time after one of the security guards was killed on set, when one of the trucks, used in the production, went rogue.

One of the last images to be released was this, behind the scenes, shot above where it was hinted that the finale might take place in a winter-surrounding.
Shooting can be exhausting...

And even though all of the cast and crew members knew they were filming the last season, none of the tweets that were released the last few months showed sad people. The general impression is that it is better to end the show where you can finish the story, than let someone pull the plug, during a season.
Check Mate(s)

So only a few months and we will know what will happen to the survivors of Second Mass.

Here's a (very) little tease.
