Star Wars Cantina Song on 16 Floppy Drives

Following on from Indiana Jones played on 16 floppy disk drives, I couldn't let this one go.  It's Star Wars or I should say the Cantina Band theme played on 16 floppy disk drives.  Very clever. The Indiana Jones Theme Played On 16 Floppy Disk Drives.

If you're under a certain age you're probably wondering what a floppy disk drive is?  Well to just clear up any confusion, a floppy drive was the main way of loading and saving data on PCs and Macs way back in the 80s and 90s.  (I feel old.) Now it seems the drives have found another use, as a musical instrument.  Take a listen to this clever rendition of Indiana Jones on 16 floppy disk drives. Star Wars Rebels Episode 1 Review NO SPOILERS. Is It Classic @StarWars ?

You're probably eager to know if Star Wars Rebels is good.  Does it match the quality of The Clone Wars which the series is kind of replacing?  Well the answer is a big fat YES! I've just finished watching the feature length opening episode and to say the show hits the ground running is an understatement.  I'm not going to give away the plot (you'll just have to watch it yourself.)  But I will say the introduction of characters to a new show as is always the case with a new series is one of the strongest opening episodes to a show I've seen in years.  Yes really! I said I wasn't going to give the plot away but I will say I love the group of heroes we have.  A kind of Robin Hood but instead of a wicked sheriff to fend off we have the evil Empire we're so familiar with from the original series.  I will say it's nice to have the Empire back with British accents, including the Stormtroopers who look gorgeous in the opening episode. The voice acting

28 Behind The Scenes Photos From E.T. The Extra Terrestrial

In 1982, Steven Spielberg's E.T The Extra Terrestrial was released.  It captured so many imaginations and made children and adults alike look up and wonder if anyone is out there.  Going against the grain with alien visitation movies, Spielberg once again made the visitors friendly as he did with the 1977 classic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.  The alien in the movie who we came to love and care about became stranded on our planet so befriends a child (Elliot) who helps him return home. Here are 28 behind the scenes photos from E.T.  all on one page for you to enjoy. School Time Henry Thomas' real mother. Working title while filming. David Oyelowo of Red Tails And Star Wars Rebels Explains His Friendship With George Lucas

Star Wars Rebels and Red Tails star, David Oyelowo explains his friendship with one of the bearded trio, George Lucas on the RadioTimes website .  They met on the set of Red Tails and have been friends ever since. “My children would meet George Lucas and see the original Yoda and the original this and that,” Oyelowo tells me. “We had a rarefied introduction to the world of Star Wars. They are big fans now.” In fact when they meet up, Lucas still talks incessantly about the Star Wars franchise despite his relatively hands-off role in the upcoming films which are now being overseen by Disney: “George never seems to tire of it. He will happily sit you down and talk non-stop about the Star Wars universe. He has also become a happy viewer from afar.” Look out for Oyelowo in the upcoming Star Wars Rebels where he will play villain, Agent Kallus. Ron Gilbert Explains What He Would Do If He Was Making Another Monkey Island

Creator of Monkey Island. Ron Gilbert took to his blog last year and explained what he would do if he was given a chance at making another Monkey Island.  Before we all get excited the talented game developer said:  I am not making another Monkey Island. I have no plans to make another Monkey Island. I am not formulating plans to make another Monkey Island. That's a shame but it is interesting to read what he would do if given the chance.  It would be a retro game that harkened back to Monkey Island 1 and 2.  I'd do it as "enhanced low-res".  Nice crisp retro art, but augmented by the hardware we have today: parallaxing, depth of field, warm glows, etc.  All the stuff we wanted to do back in 1990 but couldn't.  Monkey Island deserves that.  It's authentic.  It doesn't need 3D.  Yes, I've seen the video, it's very cool, but Monkey Island wants to be what it is.  I would want the game to be how we all remember Monkey Island.  It would be a

Steve Soderbergh Turns Raiders of the Lost Ark Into Black And White. Adds Different Soundtrack.

Ever wondered what Raiders of the Lost Ark would look like in black and white?  What about if you replace the classic John Williams soundtrack with  Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' work for David Fincher's "The Social Network" and "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo?  Nope me neither but that didn't stop director, Steve Soderbergh from putting together the whole film with the above mentioned changes.  It's strange to watch but as Soderbergh explains: I value the ability to stage something well because when it’s done well its pleasures are huge, and most people don’t do it well, which indicates it must not be easy to master (it’s frightening how many opportunities there are to do something wrong in a sequence or a group of scenes. Minefields EVERYWHERE. Fincher said it: there’s potentially a hundred different ways to shoot something but at the end of the day there’s really only two, and one of them is wrong). Of course understanding story, character, and

VIDEO: ILM's Kevin Clark on LucasFilm's Data Demands

Although this video is three years old, its still worth watching to see the hardware ILM had and have to produce movies such as Rango.  Back in 2011 they had 8500 CPU cores!  I might be able to play Skyrim in full resolution with that. Arik Hesseldahl talks to Kevin Clark of LucasFilm's Industrial Light & Magic about the data center that serves the famously geeky and CGI-intensive company.
