Following on from yesterday's blast from the past where we brought you a 30 minute video from Indiana Jones on the NES.  Today we bring you this full length 2 hour video of Lucasarts' Full Throttle from start to end.  Having problems getting the game to play on Windows 7?  Don't fancy doing the FMV sections again?  Well sit back and enjoy this full play through of the game and let those gaming memories return.

A beginning to end play through of LucasArts' 1995 graphic adventure opus, Full Throttle.

This game blew my mind when I first got it back in 1995. It combined the awesomeness of all of LucasArts' previous adventures (Sam n Max, Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island...) and amped it up by several orders of magnitude. It's a fair amount shorter and easier than the company's earlier games, but it's drowning in personality, badassness, and general quality in every respect. If you ever had a passing interest in the "experience" of a graphic adventure, look no further. Full Throttle has everything in spades.

Sit back and take yourself back to the retro 80's with this 30 minutes video playing the Indiana Jones soundtrack from the NES game, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.  The original game soundtrack was by Tim & Geoff Follin.  This will bring back memories and guaranteed to put a sentimental smile on your face.

This is the OST to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Taito) for the NES! But in Stereo! Which basically separates the sound channels and adds echo, or makes it in Stereo as I call it. So enjoy this soundtrack in what I like to call here with these soundtracks, WiiGuy's 8Bit Stereo!!

jake johnson

Jake Johnson has confirmed his involvement in Jurassic World in several interviews.  First with Huffington Post and then with Vulture.  He had been rumoured for some time but he himself has now confirmed his involvement.  Jake Johnson has worked with Colin Trevorrow before with the 2012 "Safety Not Guaranteed."  In the Vulture interview he said:

So you’re in Jurassic World.
I haven’t shot it yet. I shoot at the end of July.
If you get to interact with dinosaurs, which one do you want?
Probably the T. Rex, but what I’m really excited about is the director, Colin Trevorrow, directed me in Safety Not Guaranteed. And the writer of that movie [Derek Connolly] did a rewrite on Jurassic World. That movie we did for, I think it was $600,000 up in Seattle, a 20-day shoot. I loved it. So to do that and now be doing Jurassic World together, it just feels like a fun jump.

In the Huffington Post he described his like for the Jurassic Park series and in particular working with Colin Trevorrow once more.

Did you get involved with "Jurassic World" because of Colin Trevorrow, who directed you in "Safety Not Guaranteed"?
Absolutely. Now, I'm also a huge fan of "Jurassic Park." When I was growing up and "Jurassic Park" came out, I freaked out like every other kid. I was born in '78, so I was like, 12. If it wasn't Colin and someone said they wanted me in "Jurassic Park," I would jump on it. The fact that it's Colin, written by Derek Connolly (who wrote "Safety Not Guaranteed") and both those guys are personal friends, I'd go through a wall.

Remember the "bendy" RV from The Lost World: Jurassic Park?  Well it's been up for sale on Ebay and only went for $15,100.  That's just under £10,000!

The vehicle was sold by Theme Park Connection - a specialist in buying and selling Disney movie props and memorabilia.

Based on a 1997 Fleetwood Southwind Storm, the motorhome and trailer was customised in to mobile lab for Ian Malcom, played by Jeff Goldblum, Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore) and Nick Van Owen (Vince Vaughn).
According to the eBay advert, the motorhome is "an authentic, original prop which was designed and constructed for the film".
It is one of several RVs made for the movie and is heavily featured throughout up until it the scene when it is pushed over a cliff by two Tyrannosaurus Rex - one of the film's most classic scenes.
This could have been yours!  T-Rex not included.

bantu wind

Whatever Happened To The Bantu Wind?

The Bantu Wind, the weather beaten cargo ship Indy, Marion, and the Ark of the Covenant hitch a ride on in Raiders Of The Lost Ark, was originally a coal carrying vessel built in 1955. Throughout its chequered, unglamourous life it sailed as The Steyning, then Ballywalter in 1971, and Sallywalter in 1979. It was sourced by production designer Norman Reynolds in Belfast, by now renamed Abeer Delta, and sailing under an Egyptian flag. It was sailed to Newhaven to be redressed for the film.

bantu wind

“It was rusty and really, really beaten up, so it seemed to fit the part. As filming approached, I decided to go back and just check it out – to my horror, I discovered that the whole boat had been repainted. With very little time left, I had to actually send our paint team over to put it back in its previous condition. It finally worked out, but it was a very nerve-wracking experience, to say the least.”

bantu wind

As well as being re-aged, she was given a tall dummy funnel. The real shorter one was hidden by packing crates. She was sailed to La Rochelle in France on June 21 1980 to begin filming. The ship met her end in 1990, when she was scrapped, not “blown out of the water.”

It’s not the years, it’s the nautical mileage….

The recently announced Vancouver branch of Industrial Light and Magic brings job opportunities for those talented and lucky enough to work in the FX industry.  70 new employees will have the opportunity to work for the FX giants and work on movies such as Jurassic World, Star Trek and a little movie called Star Wars VII.

It’s great news for the Vancouver visual effects industry, but it might create shortages of qualified staff, said Brent Greening, senior instructor of visual effects at Vancouver Film School.

“This is going to have an impact in Vancouver and B.C. because it’s showing that even the big boys want to play here. ILM has been around for 30 years or more. They did the first Star Wars and they’re pioneers in the visual effects world,” Greening said. So for them to set up shop here and to make a go of it using the talent from Vancouver is phenomenal.”

“I can see there being a shortage (of qualified workers) in the future if we don’t do something about it,” Greening said. “Right now, it depends on who you ask. Some studios that have just finished a project are letting some people go, while others are picking up 200 people. There’s going to be shortages and surpluses here and there.”

Vancouversun.com write:

The hiring at ILM could result in a lot of movement in titles and between companies, Greening said.
He said the big companies are attracted to Vancouver because talent is here, tax incentives are here and the lower Canadian dollar makes it cheaper to do business.
Pixar left Vancouver last fall, but Greening said both companies are owned by Disney, which was possibly testing the waters in Vancouver with Pixar. Other large visual effects companies that work in Vancouver include Sony Pictures Imageworks, which in January moved some staff members from Los Angeles to Vancouver, Moving Picture Company, Prime Focus, Rainmaker, CIS, and ZOIC Studios, Greening said.
“It’s an exciting time here in Vancouver because we’re seeing a lot of the big name projects coming to town,” Greening said. “You’ve got people who are going to be cutting their teeth on big blockbuster films, plus some of the older dogs like myself will have a chance to work on things we haven’t seen since we were kids.”

frozen, disney

Thirteen is not a bad number really.  Disney's Frozen has, this week taken No. 13 in the all-time worldwide box office takings this week.  That means the animated movie has taken over $1 billion and passes Spielberg's Jurassic Park and Star Wars, The Phantom Menace, directed by George Lucas.

Since opening in November, Disney Animation's juggernaut recently upped its total to $1.031 billion. That haul tops the gross of Steven Spielberg's dinosaur thriller, which rolled to $1.029 billion for Universal in 1993. “Phantom Menace,” which brought in $1.027 billion for Fox in 1999, according to Box Office Mojo.

Becca's Chava Chat

Luke: “Leia, do you remember your mother, your real mother?”

Leia: “Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.”

Luke: “What do you remember?”

 Leia: “Just images really, feelings.”

Luke: “Tell me.”

Leia: “She was very beautiful, kind, but sad. Why are you asking me this?”

Luke: “I have no memory of my mother. I never knew her.”

The above dialog is absolutely, positively, one of the most poignant and emotional moments of the entire Star Wars Saga. With that said, I know I am not the only one who feels this way. Such an impactful scene with a magnitude of revelations and yet, it opened up another sarlacc pit of wonderment.  Who wasn’t curious about this mysterious woman that gave birth to these separated, force sensitive twins?

Padme Naberrie Amidala Skywalker :

1.)Queen of Naboo 2.)Galactic Senator 3.)Wife of the “Chosen One” (Anakin Skywalker) 4.)Mother of Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa. That’s quite the list of impressive credentials. There are not many, if any, that could’ve held a candle to her and all that she represented during her short-lived life. Her beauty was exquisite, her selflessness was immeasurable, and she loved unconditionally.

Personally, she is my favorite female character of the Saga. She exemplifies the core meaning of her name, “Padme”:  lotus, which symbolizes wisdom. The whole name, “Om Mani PADME Hum” also symbolizes such characteristics as:  pure exalted body and speech [Om] and purity by unity of wisdom [Hum]. Translation: In theory, a path in which and indivisible union of method and wisdom, one can transform the impure body, speech, and mind into the pure exalted body. This is best known as Buddha or Buddhism.

Perhaps, this is better explained, or at least quite similar to this description given by Yoda and Qui-Gon Jinn: “Eternal Life….”

“The ultimate goal of the Sith, yet they can never achieve it; it comes only through the release of self, not the exaltation of self. It comes through compassion, not greed. Love is the answer to the darkness.”

It’s definitely interesting to see the comparison(s), even more intriguing because Padme was not a Jedi/Force sensitive.

Getting back on track, Padme was a very powerful political figure in the Republic Senate. She typically could sway her colleagues, even those on the opposing side(s), in her favor and resourceful enough to avoid several assassination attempts on her life. The woman was not to be underestimated, yet she could not contain/control her personal affairs, aka: marriage. Anakin had matched her “Powerful Stature” equally, if not, more so.

With all of that being said, how is it that she died such an untimely death? Perhaps, we will never really know or completely understand the reasoning behind it, which is what makes it so controversial amongst the fandom.

Not everyone agrees with her “losing the will to live” line, I will admit, it is a hard one to swallow. Given all we know of her character strengths, it just doesn’t seem plausible, does it? This topic has been blogged/discussed/dissected more times than I can remember, but it’s definitely worth the rehashing/debating, at least to me.

Before I begin theorizing, let me just reiterate, that this is just my own opinions/musings/ideas on what I think/believe may, or may have not, been the reason(s) for Padme’s demise. What I hope to gain by all of this? To hopefully spark some new thoughts, questions, and interests in our fandom.

“She has lost the will to live.”

A medical droid delivers this message to Obi-wan, Yoda, and Bail Organa before the delicate delivery of the twins. All present seem to be stunned by this news, even Obi-wan chimes in, as if he were trying to clarify the diagnosis, She’s dying?”

Please keep in mind, the medical droid only knows how to decipher scientific scenarios, not matters concerning “human behaviors.” As Obi-wan once said,If droids could think, there’d be none of us here, would there? There IS a distinct difference between, Knowledge and Wisdom.

Going with the Knowledge route, it was stated that there was nothing medically wrong with Padme, but she had lost her will to live. So WHY did she die? Intriguing, isn’t it? Didn’t they (Obi-wan, Bail, and Yoda) want to know? That has always baffled me, especially since the Jedi have always been known to save others. Wasn’t Padme worth the effort? Or was it something else, something more….elusive?

Our meeting was not a coincidence. Nothing happens by accident.”- Qui-Gon Jinn

As the wise, Qui-Gon Jinn stated, everything happens for a reason. So on the Wisdom side of things, Padme’s death was not by chance. Perhaps she was chosen, by something else, something unexplainable; the Force. Is this possible? Why not? According to Jedi prophecy, the Force selected it’s very own savior, known as the “Chosen One.” So how is this any different?

Let’s explore.

If the force did pick Padme to carry and deliver Anakin’s offspring, then her time among the living, physical force was complete. In other words, she had met her destiny and carried out the ultimate sacrifice; delivering a New Hope to the Galaxy. Is there anything more noble or selfless than giving up your own life for others? I’d have to say no and quite frankly, very befitting and true to her character. It also ties in nicely with her statement from AOTC,I’m not afraid to die. I’ve been dying a little each day since you came back into my life.” Quite possibly the Force was already foreshadowing her fate.

We could also romance it a bit too and say that the two, Star-crossed lovers died of broken hearts. That as Anakin’s soul died on the operating table and the persona of Vader took control, Padme let go as well. Soul-mates are noted as being One Entity, living harmoniously with an intense connection. That certainly depicts the bond between Anakin and Padme. The price they paid for such a short time of togetherness, the repercussions, and all the lives lost, was it worth it? You know what they say about love, “’Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. – Alfred Lord Tennyson

One more notion, if you will, please do not throw poodoo my way after this musing.
Have any of you seen or read the Twilight Saga? Yep, there you have it, the flying poodoo. Ok, so here’s what I’m proposing. Is it feasible to think that Padme a human, (like Bella Swan) could have died because the pregnancy was not compatible with her body?

Padme was carrying two force sensitive beings in her human body. Could it have been too much for her and possibly drained the life force from her? Like Padme, Bella was carrying a hybrid child, much too powerful for her frail, human body and it ultimately killed her. *SPOILERS* my apologies for those who haven’t seen it yet and are planning to.

So, what do you think? Was Padme’s death unjustified? Or do you think she made the ultimate sacrifice and thus, making her the true heroine of the Star Wars Saga?
As for me, I choose to believe that the Force selected her, much like it chose one before her; Shmi Skywalker.

Both women were strong and put the ones they loved before anything or anyone else. They were selfless and had the emotional backbone to let go or stay behind, in order for the ones they loved to grow, flourish, and even supersede a lost legacy. That to me, is probably the most quintessential act of surrender, for the “Greater Good” one could ever give; their life for another’s.

“I’ve never given much thought to how I would die, but dying in the place of someone I love seems like a good way to go…”-Bella Swan

I really hope you enjoyed my broodings. If there’s anything you’d like me to discuss in the future, please don’t hesitate to ask. Leave me a comment and I’ll be sure to respond, or contact me directly at beccab@coffeewithkenobi.com

Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern will not be returning for the fourth film in the franchise, ‘Jurassic World’.

The Director of the much anticipated dino adventure, Colin Trevorrow said in an interview with IGN yesterday.

"I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back. They’re iconic. But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons,”
"Jurassic Park isn’t about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they’d go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go.”
Remember the scientist from the first Jurassic Park who kind of gives the main cast the tour?  The character was Dr. Henry Wu played by BD Wong.  Well he has been confirmed as a returning character.  In the original novel he has a much larger part and Trevorrow is eager to use him more.
"He had a much larger role in the original novel, he was the engineer of this breakthrough in de-extinction. He spent two decades living in Hammond’s shadow, under appreciated. We think there’s more to his story.”
Trevorrow also revealed that it was Steven Spielberg who delayed the film, pushing it from a 2014 release date to June 2015, and he confirmed that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard would be the two main leads.

There's good news and bad news for Ghostbusters 3.  The good news is Sony Pictures has announced plans to begin shooting the film in New York City in early 2015, Deadline reports.

The bad news is director Ivan Reitman has dropped out of the project in the wake of Ramis's death last month.  Production will continue however with Reitman helping the producers (Amy Pascal) find a new director.

Digital Spy reports:

Reitman has revealed that the final script for the upcoming film is one that went through several iterations in order to please Aykroyd, Ramis and Bill Murray, who has apparently not agreed to do the film.
He said: "It's a version of Ghostbusters that has the originals in a very minor role... When I came back from Harold's funeral, it was really moving and it made me think about a lot of things.
"I just finally met with Amy and Doug Belgrad when I got back. I said I'd been thinking about it for weeks, that I'd rather just produce this Ghostbusters.

The foundation that Steven Spielberg founded after being inspired by Holocaust survivors he met while filming Schindler's List is marking its 20th anniversary this year.

The USC Shoah Foundation has collected the testimonies of 51,413 survivors in 34 languages from 58 countries - surpassing expectations Spielberg had when he created the foundation in 1994.  The scope of the foundation has grown to include those who have survived genocides in countries such as Rwanda, Cambodia, and Armenia.

The foundation hosts a searchable digital archive used both for education and outreach.  Spielberg himself visits schools so he can share some of the collected testimonies with young people.  Admittedly, at first they're more interested in discussing movies, but their focus shifts as those testimonies are presented.

Needless to say, that pleases Spielberg a great deal.

“It just restored my real faith in all these new generations that at the core of all of their values, everybody starts out as a good person,” he said. “(The testimony) reaches and presses the button of the decency in all of us. The decency, the compassion and the pro-action to want to make the world a better place. Not just in young people, in everybody.”

Spielberg has written a book commemorating the 20th anniversary entitled Testimony: The Legacy of Schindler's List and the USC Shoah Foundation.  It is due for release next week.

ILM president Lynwen Brennan, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, ILM Chief Creative Office John Knoll, MLA Naomi Yamamoto, MP Ed Fast
Industrial Light And Magic have opened it's latest studio.  This time in Gastown, Vancouver.  The site is an ex-Pixar 30,000-square foot studio.  Pixar vacated the building in October 2013.

ILM president, Lynwen Brennan had this to say about the new building and to put fears to rest about the studio going the same way as previous residents, Pixar:

"We're in very different businesses so the reason for Pixar leaving are very different than what would affect the visual effects industry," Brennan said at the ILM Vancouver office. "It's been well documented their reasons for leaving here was they wanted to consolidate production all in one place. So for us, we're actually needing more capacity. So what we're looking for at ILM is we need to grow, we need more artists, and we need talented artists."

ILM chief creative officer and senior visual effects supervisor John Knoll also pointed out that there is a solid stream of work coming down the pipe for them.

"An advantage that we have being a child company of Lucasfilm, Lucasfilm has a pretty aggressive content plan. So we've got an 8 to 10 year slate of work that's already been laid out in front of us. We know that's all coming and we're preparing for it."

The Vancouver studio will work on numerous blockbusters such as the Star Wars trilogy, Warcraft, Jurassic World, andTomorrowland.

The music of John Williams (albeit a disco version) was featured in the latest episode of Dancing with the Stars. Billy Dee Williams - known to Star Wars fans a Lando Calrissian from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi - is a contestant on the dance competition show this season. Williams and his dance partner, Emma Slater, danced the cha-cha to Meco’s "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band” single from 1977.

Billy Dee Williams is 77 years old, has arthritis in his back, and he’s had two hip replacements. While the judges were a bit critical of his performance, he certainly deserves a world of credit for participating in the show.

You can watch his segment right here:

Um, they're flocking this way.  No, not a flock of Gallimimus like in Jurassic Park but 1500 locals from Lihue, Hawaii are hoping to get one of fifty background spots in the upcoming Jurassic World, directed by Colin Trevorrow.

The Garden Island newspaper reported Monday that those who auditioned for "Jurassic World" were asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement by the film's production company, EEB Tide Productions.  One hopeful who happened to be a journalist couldn't resist writing about the experience.
“No Facebook, no Instagram, nothing,” one casting call organizer put it when I finally made my way through the 3-hour line to where the organizers actually were. She didn’t say anything about print, but probably because she forgot. “If you want to work on this movie, take it seriously.”
The day began at the Kauai Community College campus. The line, which began to form at 7 a.m. according to inside sources, snaked from the Performing Arts Center, past the bus stop, to just about Puhi Road by the time I arrived at 10:30.
Organizers walked up and down the line handing out the terms to the non-disclosure agreement so everyone knew right away to play it close to the vest. I didn’t blame them. Jurassic Park was the highest grossing film ever at $900 million after its 1993 release. It just made my job a little harder, is all. I mean, to be a part of something like that you have to have a workman’s discipline, though everyone I talked to — on the side, of course — said they were there for the experience of it all, not to actually crack the limelight.
Read more about the experience here.

the walkers among us

Cris Macht who brought us the fantastic "Force Within Us" Star Wars documentary, has now started work on a new project.  This time exploring the fan base world of the popular Zombie-ridden TV show, The Walking Dead.

Rachel with Norman Reedus.
She is a fan...big fan.
Called THE WALKERS AMONG US, the show will go in-depth and explore the fans of the show
including those Reedus fans of which my wife is definitely one.

The filmmakers, Cris Macht and Ian Vacek have started a Kickstarter campaign and need your help.  In return they are offering some rather impressive gifts including DVDs, artwork, meeting the cast and there's even a red carpet experience.

Filmmakers and (Childhood friends) Cris Macht and Ian Vacek released their 2nd documentary last year – THE FORCE WITHIN US (about Star Wars fans) and have since formed their own production company “Lust For Life LTD”. As big fans of The Walking Dead and experience with documentaries based around the fans, it only made sense that their next project focused on the fans of the hottest TV show….THE WALKING DEAD. We believe that any franchise is only as big and successful as their fan base, nothing will be successful without the support of their fans! – and we feel that this story should be told and explored! This documentary is made by fans for the fans! Not only will this be a high quality production, it will also be a documentary that is packed with excitement, emotion, and passion…just like in their previous projects!
THIS PROJECT CAN NOT BE COMPLETED WITHOUT YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT!!!!
We have several interviews lined up with The Walking Dead Authors, Writers, Actors, Podcast Hosts, Fans, and everything in between. We will be filming across the United States (including the filming locations in Atlanta, and The Walker Stalker Convention in Both Chicago and Atlanta)

Adrianne Curry was spotted recently filming a segment for Ross Mathews E! series, Hello Ross. The segment involved taking a ride on the excellent Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios Hollywood.
