The Cantina Cast have released a new episode of their show.  Episode 31 is now live and its a good one.  Mike and Joao discuss and speculate about the recently announced Star Wars animated series "Rebels."  The duo discuss which story arcs they would like to see and which ones they wouldn't.  Lets just say they're hoping a Jabba story is not on the radar.

You may remember we featured Mike Rondeau on our quick fire questions Sunday and The Cantina Cast mention this on their show.  We get a nice plug.

Here's the show notes and the link to the show.

Mike and Joao skip the recent star wars news (We'll leave that up to JediNews ) and jump right in to the news about the Disney animated TV show Star Wars: Rebels. After you listen to the show be sure to head over to The Bearded Trio's website to read Mikes answers to they're quick fire questions.

RebelForce Radio have released the latest episode of their podcast.  One of the topics they tackle this week is why Star Wars is better than Star Trek.  What do you think?  Do you agree with the duo?  Or are you in the other camp?  Perhaps you're split right down the middle.  Let us know what you think.

Just for the record with my thoughts, I'm split.  Its like asking me which is better?  A good curry or a good beer?  I need both in my life and they compliment each other quite nicely.

Fringe star John Noble who played the most excellent Walter Bishop has told IGN he would love to do Star Wars with J.J. Abrams.  The australian said:

"I'd love to do Star Wars. That would just be epic doing something like that. And it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

"I have a terrific relationship with JJ Abrams and Bad Robot, I really do. So it's not beyond the realm of possibility. It's a while away yet."

He said: "Well, I mean Star Wars. If you're going to do one, do Star Wars. I mean seriously, if you're going to pick one to do, do that one.

"Because that's basically a cultural revolution. It reset pop culture in some ways. So if I had to choose one, it would be that one."

I for one would love to see Bishop I mean Noble in the new movie.  He is a top notch actor and if he performs anything like he did in Fringe we would be in for a treat

One of the best Star Wars games of the 21st century, Knights Of The Old Republic is now available for Ipad owners.  The classic 2003 game from Bioware can now be played on the move.  IGN have reviewed the game and given it a rather healthy 8.8 saying the game is perfect for the tablet with its pause and command gameplay although it was let down by the touch screen movement which always seems to be a problem for these typs of games on tablets and smart phones.

man of steel new pic

John Williams has no issues whatsoever in the new Superman movie called Man Of Steel having a soundtrack by Hans Zimmer.  But he has said watching a Superman movie without the late and great Christopher Reeve will be hard.

In an interview with Zap2it the composer said:

"It puts me in mind of the late Chris Reeve, who we all loved so much. It's going to be hard for me not to let go of the music, but to let go of the idea of Superman being Chris."

"I thought he not only made that project successful, he embodied what all of us imagine Superman to look like if he could be given skin and bone, I think," he added.

He went on to say that he doesn't know if the film will use his score: "I haven't seen it, but I'm sure it will be wonderful. I don't know if they've used any of the original music or not; it's a Warner Bros film, in which case, they certainly have the right to do so.

"I hope it will be successful, and I look forward to seeing it."

jw rinzler making of return of the jedi

Every Star Wars fan under this sun is looking forward to J.W. Rinzler's next installment in his making of Star Wars books.  The Making Of Return Of The Jedi is out in September.  In the mean time the writer has released this quote from George Lucas which was taken from a conference call in 1981.  It shows an interesting insight into the Star Wars director and creator along with Lawrence Kasdan and how he had ideas for the Prequels, even back then.

“Well, anyway, Luke’s father gets subverted by the Emperor. He gets a little weird at home and his wife begins to figure out that things are going wrong and she confides in Ben, who is his mentor. On his missions through the galaxies, Anakin has been going off doing his Jedi thing and a lot of Jedi have been getting killed—and it’s because they turn their back on him and he cuts them down. The president is turning into an Emperor and Luke’s mother suspects that something has happened to her husband. She is pregnant. Anakin gets worse and worse, and finally Ben has to fight him and he throws him down into a volcano and Vader is all beat up. Now, when he falls into the pit, his other arm goes and his leg and there is hardly anything left of him by the time the Emperor’s troops fish him out of the drink. Then when Ben finds out that Vader has been fished out and is in the hands of the Empire, he is worried about it. He goes back to Vader’s wife and explains that Anakin is the bad guy, the one killing all the Jedi. When he goes back his wife, Mrs. Skywalker has had the kids, the twins, so she has these two little babies who are six months old or so. So everybody has to go into hiding.”

star wars vii news roundup

There's a lot of news surrounding Star Wars VII and it can be easy to get bogged down with what's going on.  Here's a quick round up of the news over the last few days

  • One of the bearded trio, John Williams has expressed his desire to return to the Star Wars universe.  Williams, who created the iconic themes for film series including 'Superman', 'Jaws' and 'Jurassic Park' also told Zap2It that Abrams was "excited" about working with him.  "We've certainly talked about that, and I'm happy and willing to do it," he said.  Reda more at http://www.jedinews.co.uk/news/news.aspx?newsID=11889

  • Writer and film director Edgar Wright doesn't think he has any chance of a role in Star Wars after slating the prequels in the TV series Spaced. Digital Spy reports that the Ant-Man director said at London's MCM Comic-Con 2013 that he thinks he was too vicious about the prequel trilogy in Spaced to be considered for Disney's future projects.  Read more here.

american graffiti

An estimated 30,000 fans of George Lucas' "American Graffiti" gathered where the film was shot in Petaluma, Calif., to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

About 370 classic cars and hot rods were lined up and on display Saturday as part of the Petaluma Salute to American Graffiti event that began Friday 17th May, the Santa Rosa (Calif.) Press reported the following Sunday.

Even the 1967 Citroen 2CV driven by Richard Dreyfuss' character in the film was on view, brought in by its current owner and "American Graffiti" aficionado Jerry Causbrook.

"I've seen [the movie] probably 600 or 700 times," Causbrook said, adding that he serves as a consultant for re-enactments of the film.

The event -- put on for a ninth year by Cruisin' The Boulevard -- raises money for Petaluma-area causes and awards scholarships to local students entering the automotive or film industries, the newspaper said.

The organization has donated $120,000 to local charities since 2005.

Darth Malgus costume

I came across this video on Youtube showing how a fan of the MMORPG game The Old Republic has re-created a cosplay costume of Darth Malgus who appears in the game.  You have to watch the video to see how impressive this costume is.  No CGI was used.

"Plaigeous" writes:

This is the first full test try on for a Darth Malgus costume. Made entirely from scratch by myself at our workshop in Ireland and filmed on a 'Red MX' camera by my good friend Kamil Krawczak. These film services are available from info@kamilphotography.com. Please contact Kamil for a quote. You can also see updates of my other builds on Twitter- @darthserberus
**Additional Info Added**
Firstly there are absolutely NO CGI enhancements to the vid. We would love to have added some saber fx to the blade but this was purely a camera/costume test.

darth malgus

MX Red camera was hired just for the day to film some test footage for another project.
With a few hours remaining we decided shoot Malgus as I had just finished the costume the night before, so everything was very last minute. We were also limited to the amount of movement as it was filmed in a small corner of the workshop with a black backdrop that was far too small. Hence all the posing and no action!! lol The jerky head movement is from when I'm speaking some script, as we originally intended to dub a voiceover in post production.
The mask is a silicone CFX Geezer mask that was heavily modified by both CFX and myself. The work CFX did on the mask was outstanding and I highly recommend them. It was only after trying it on that i decided to modify and paint it further.

The saber is an Ultrasabers 'Malice' and due to the high quality of the camera the saber does not outshine everything as it would do in reality.
You can see the entire build of this costume over at The Replica Prop Forum-
http://www.therpf.com/f24/darth-malgu...
I learnt my skills working in the film industry for 20 years but now I mainly make private commissions. But if JJ came calling I could definitely be tempted back! ;)

Industrial Light & Magic have a new Chief Creative Officer in John Knoll.
Knoll’s credits as vfx supervisor include the first three “Pirates of the Caribbean” pictures, the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy, two “Mission: Impossible” pics, two “Star Trek” films and the upcoming “Pacific Rim.” He won a vfx Oscar for the second “Pirates” pic and was co-leader of ILM’s production team on the Oscar-winning animated feature “Rango.”
In his new role, Knoll will be involved in early creative planning for all projects that come to ILM. Said Brennan: “I was looking to find someone to partner with. We always have a vfx supervisor and producer partnered to run a show here. You have the creative and the business side.”
Knoll’s promotion reflects Lucasfilm topper Kathleen Kennedy’s feeling that because of the growing complexity of f/x-driven pictures and their cost structures, it’s crucial to have a creative voice of Knoll’s stature in early planning, “I felt very strongly the company needed that,” Kennedy told Variety.
The chief creative officer title is especially significant now that ILM and Lucasfilm are owned by Disney. In the history of the Mouse House, only John Lasseter has ever had a chief creative officer title. Knoll will continue to work on individual titles as a vfx supe — he joined the team on “The Lone Ranger” as that pic entered its final push to completion — in addition to his managerial duties.

Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light and Magic has signed an expanded co-operation deal with Base FX that secures the exclusive use of the Beijing-based shingle’s services for all ILM’s Hollywood pics.

Blue is the Warmest Colour, an intimate love story about two young French women, has won the Palme d'Or for best film at the Cannes Film Festival.

It has attracted attention for its explicit sex scenes as well as the acclaimed performances of actresses Adele Exarchopoulos and Lea Seydoux.

Steven Spielberg, who chaired the jury, told reporters: "I think it will get a lot of play... I think this film carries a very strong message, a very positive message."

In an unusual move, Spielberg awarded the prize to the two lead actresses as well as the director.

Spielberg was joined on the jury by Life of Pi director Ang Lee, actress Nicole Kidman and Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz.

The other judges were We Need To Talk About Kevin film-maker Lynne Ramsay, French actor Daniel Auteuil, Romanian director Cristian Mungiu, Japanese director Naomi Kawase and Bollywood star Vidya Balan.

Lets kick off.

You're stuck in a swamp on Dagobah. What one movie, TV show, album and book would you take? Movie: Clerks, I have to assume I’m already living in the Star Wars universe if I’m stuck on Dagobah(Which
is awesome), so bringing ESB would not be required. TV Show: Northern Exposure.Album: Social Distortion live at the Roxy. Book:The Big Bang Theory and Philosophy.

If you could invite any three people (alive or not, fictitious or not) to a dinner party, who would they be?
Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa Skywalker Solo and Anakin Skywalker. I think we could work out the family issues.

What is your favourite John Williams soundtrack?
John Williams 40 years of film Music. It covers all the classics we love.

If you were invisible for a day what would be the first thing you would do?
I would hang out in Kathleen Kennedy's office. Hopefully her and J.J have a meeting that day.

When was the last time you cried?
Long ago....I can’t recall.

What is your biggest fear?
Failing my daughter and Clowns...I hate clowns.

What was the most embarrassing moment of your life?
Haven’t had this prestigious honor yet.

Excluding search engines, what three website would you choose if no other websites were available?
Jedinews.co.uk, Facebook (sadly) and amazon.com

Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Celebrity gossip. I watch TMZ a lot. (puts head down in shame)

What are you looking forward to the most in the next six months?
My birthday of course. (October 19)

What is your most treasured possession?
My precious would be my ROTJ Luke Skywalker version II replica lightsaber. I will pass this down to a worthy padawan (My daughter)

What is your biggest regret?
Not joining the US Marines like my father before me.

What are you most proud of?
Getting the Cantina Cast back up and running.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Where can people keep in touch or follow you?
Twitter @theCantinaCast @theJediHermit and facebook.com/TheCantinaCast

Happy Birthday Return Of The Jedi.

THE BEARDED TRIO ON FACEBOOK
THE BEARDED TRIO ON TWITTER
THE BEARDED TRIO ON GOOGLE+

I was lucky enough (and old enough) to have seen Return Of The Jedi at the cinema in 1983. I was the perfect age, eleven years old. I was already a huge Star Wars fan thanks to the first two movies, but for some reason I was really sucked into the hype of the third Star Wars. There seemed to be more TV appearances from the cast of Jedi on our stations (all four of them here in the UK), of which I tried to catch, or at least record on my very own video tape to watch later. The movie trailer seemed to play more than ever on TV, and newspapers were doing Return Of The Jedi pull out specials. I was already spending all my pocket money on the stickers for my Return Of The Jedi sticker album, (I never got it complete.) and collecting all the Kenner figures and vehicles.

So you can see why I was so hyped up for the third movie. The day arrived where I was off to the cinema with a friend and after queueing for two hours at the local cinema which boasted two screens we were finally in and sitting at the front of the theatre. The buzz was electric, except to my right where all the smokers were lighting up. Incredible to think that back in those days the room was split into two. Right for the smokers and everywhere else for us non-smokers.

Finally, Return Of The Jedi hit the screen. Star Wars was back. To this day I vividly remember watching the first scene with the imperial shuttle coming out of the Star Destroyer and hearing those familiar Lucasfilm sound effects. I smiled so much. Like the first coffee of the morning or, if you smoke, your first cigarette of the day. I was getting my fix and feeling so satisfied. There was a problem though...

My friend who accompanied me had already seen the movie so knew what was coming up. I remember when Boushh appeared in Jabba's palace, in my ear I heard this little voice telling me "that's Princess Leia in that suit, come to rescue Solo." THANKS A LOT! It was the only time he did this. I think the look I gave him was enough for him to get the message.

As the movie continued I was completely enthralled. The first time I laid eyes on the Speeder bike scene was pure movie magic. I remember thinking to myself that I hope they do this in a video game some day.

Other things I remember were thinking the second Death Star was the first one from A New Hope. I thought the Rebels hadn't completely destroyed it, and also, when Luke cuts off Vader's hand and looks at his robotic hand, I really thought that Luke was turning into Vader. I kind of interpreted that scene as if Luke chopped off Vader's leg then he would have that leg on him. Strange how an eleven year old mind works.

Then came the Ewoks. Lets get this out there now. I loved and still love those little furry guys. I may have not got the meaning of Luke and his hand but I did get the message of seeing these cute tiny creatures taking down the mighty Empire. I'm not sure this would have worked as much with Wookiees.

I left the cinema buzzing. My love for Star Wars was greater than ever (if that was possible.) To this day every time I watch Return Of The Jedi it takes me to my happy place. I'm eleven years old again and makes me feel all warm inside. For that reason Return Of The Jedi is my favourite Star Wars movie. Happy 30th.

3D Deathchase on the Sinclair Spectrum.  This game was cutting edge at the time and was an obvious take on the speeder bike scene.  I thought it was incredible and so did the magazines at the time.  Your Sinclair and Crash both awarding the game high marks, especially for graphics.

One of my all time favourite John Williams piecces.
