warcraft movie

It comes as no surprise that Duncan Jones' Warcraft movie based on the popular MMO game has been pushed back to 2016.  The original date was December 18th 2015 which was getting a bit crowded after the delay to Star Wars VII brought the two movies together and sharing the same release date.

No movie wants to go up against J.J. Abrams Star Wars VII, it would be box office suicide.  The new release date for the Warcraft movie is now March 11th 2016.  At the moment March 2016 is looking quite quiet for other releases so a very good move from the movie studio.

No need for Warcraft to pull a Leroy Jenkins at this time

Additional casting for possible recurring and guest starring roles will be taking place. The extras will be hired beginning in February, 2014 when shooting begins in Los Angeles.

The series is a sci-fi thriller about an astronaut trying to reconnect with her family after spending a year in space.

Details on how talent can submit for acting roles, and registration information for extras can be found on the following casting post:

jurassic world

The Jurassic World director takes to Twitter to calm our nerves about Jurassic World.

Colin Trevorrow, the director of 2015's 'Jurassic Park' sequel, has reassured fans that 'Jurassic World' won't be a reboot.

The American film-maker took to Twitter to answer a concerned dino-fan's question about the forthcoming film, assuring him that the fourth 'Jurassic Park' film wouldn't be a rehashing of the 1993 original.

He explained his film will pick up the story 22 years after the "horrific events" of the first 'Jurassic Park' film which, neatly, will be celebrating its 22nd anniversary when 'Jurassic World' is released in 2015.

Trevorrow also clarified that the fourth installment would stay true to the roots of the original film, promising "a new, sci-fi terror adventure".

baz luhrmann

Producer Steven Spielberg is reportedly eyeing up the Australian director Baz Luhrmann to call the shots on HBO's highly-anticipated miniseries "Napoleon," based on Stanley Kubrick's famously unrealized screenplay.

Luhrmann has directed movies such as The Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge and Australia!

Although no deal is yet in place, according to Deadline, the move would likely find Luhrmann directing the entire min, which centers on the 19th century French leader's staggering conquest of Europe, his defeat at the hands of coalition forces at Waterloo and his eventual island exile.

No casting has yet been announced.

rc tie interceptor

FromGig540's Youtube Channel.  You need to see this.  A fully working FLYING Tie Interceptor.  Impressive, most impressive.

Here is a Tie Interceptor I built from drawings and pictures I found on the Internet. Since the first time I seen the Interceptor in the movies when I was a Kid it was my favorite ship. I always liked the aggressive style to it and the sounds they made.

Here is a link to a forum to where I posted the entire build. Most of it I think
http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showt...
A lot has changed in RC Flight with electrics and with that it has opened a whole new doorway of possibilities. Due to the extremely powerful brushless motors and light weight and high powered Lithium Batteries you can pretty much make anything fly that you may not have had the chance to 20 years ago.
This was scratch built from balsa, blue foam from Lowes and some carbon fiber tubes and rods. Building with blue foam is fairly inexpensive and with the amount you get you can make a lot . These wont break your wallet and you can have hours of making up things to build and fly.
The Tie Interceptor is 3' long 34'' wide and 28'' tall and about 2 lbs. It is powered by 3530-10 Brushless and a Power Up 40 amp. ESC. Battery is a 25c 1650 3s Lithium. Control is done using Delta style wing configuration. Very easy and fun to fly.
So here is another video of the Star Wars Tie-Fighter Interceptor after some editing. Hope you guys enjoy!

Thanks to Jedi News for bringing this one to our attention.  Fancy a Stormtrooper helmet signed by George Lucas?  Well you've just missed out.  The famous Sothebys have just had an auction for just such a thing.  The lot went for...wait for it...$245,000.  Yes that's right, a quarter of a million dollars.  The reserve was just $10,000 to $15,000.

I just paid £10 for a stormtrooper helmet to complete my last 17 Luke in Stormtrooper gear.  That was enough!

From the official Star Wars Youtube channel:

This Star Wars trailer is for a limited two-week re-release of the film on April 10, 1981. This re-release was historic, as it would mark the first appearance of "Episode IV A New Hope" in the movie's opening crawl, officially rebranding the film as Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope -- in its original release, it was simply called Star Wars.

The short trailer features clips from several scenes, including Han Solo blasting Stormtroopers on Tatooine, Luke Skywalker's encounter with Sand People, and the Millennium Falcon's escape from the Death Star. The trailer's narrator calls the film "legendary" and describes it as "the most popular film of all time" -- referencing the box office record for ticket sales held by Star Wars at the time.

jurassic world

Visual Consultant Rick Carter has recently talked about the state of play with Jurassic World.  Carter who previously worked on films such at Back To The Future and Avatar recently told ComingSoon,

(We’re going) To try and visualize where this could go next and make sure it had some the same—literally the same—the DNA of the previous movies. Ed Verreaux is the production designer on that one. He did the third ‘Jurassic Park.’ We’ve worked together going all the way back to ‘Back to the Future.’ It’s a real hand-off between the two of us.
Jurassic World is pencilled for a 2015 release.  Carter will also be working on the equally anticipated Star Wars VII which is also set for 2015.

On Star Wars VII Carter said:

"I offered my services to Kathy Kennedy," Carter says of Episode VII, "who I had known for a long time. I said, 'If you're going to get involved with 'Star Wars' in this new generation, I'd love to be a part of the dialogue and help.' She invited me in last January and that's what I've been doing ever since. Then J.J. [Abrams] came in and we hit it off."

doctor who 50th
10.18 million people tuned in last night to watch the 50th Anniversary Special of Doctor Who on BBC1.  That makes it the largest overnight viewing figure since the first Christmas special with Matt Smith, "A Christmas Carol" which took 10.3 million.  What makes it even sweeter is the fact that a sci-fi show beat the popular reality show, X-Factor which, the time travelling show was going up against.  X-Factor fell to 7.67 million viewers.

The 50th anniversary of Doctor Who was also shown in cinemas up and down the country in 3D.  I attended a showing last night and what an experience.  Full of Doctor Who fans who were all excited for the upcoming event.  Matt Smith and David Tennant introduced the show telling you to put your 3D glasses on and feeling disappointed it was only in 3D.  "Where's the fun in that?" expressed the Doctor.  "12D is where it's at."

ea logo

EA were at the UBS Global Technology Conference and in particular EA chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen.  During his presentation he discussed the Star Wars franchise they've managed to get their hands on and how the games on Star Wars will not be film tie-ins.

“We’ve done movie games over the years and we wanted to make sure that we weren’t doing a movie game, i.e., game based on the movie,” Jorgensen says. “The beauty of the Star Wars franchise is that it's so broad and so deep, you don’t have to do a movie game, you can do a game that's very focused on the world that's been created around Star Wars.”

Thats good news.  Movie tie-in games are usually poodoo.

AllGamesBeta have published an article that EA's relationships with Lucasfilm and in particular Star Wars will be for 10 years.

Electronic Arts UBS Global Technology Conference Transcription

Eric J. Sheridan - UBS Securities LLC

One last topic we wanted to talk about was the next Star Wars game, the franchise that will come through the licensing deal with Disney; if you could help us understand how that came about, sort of what are the challenges and opportunities of developing that kind of game alongside of, obviously, an enormous movie title that will no doubt do big business?

Blake J. Jorgensen

Yes, so I mean we’ve done movie games over the years and we wanted to make sure that we weren’t doing a movie game i.e., game based on the movie, the beauty of the Star Wars franchise is that it's so broad and so deep, you don’t have to do a movie game, you can do a game that's very focused on the world that's been created around Star Wars. We had a long relationship obviously with Lucas on the original Star Wars and when Disney took over Lucas, they really wanted to maintain a video game business around Star Wars. They felt it was very valuable and a lot of people loved the games historically. And so they came to us because of our partnership and they knew that we could help them develop really great games and we struck what we believe is a fantastic deal which allows us to be able to build games in many different genres across multiple types of platforms over 10 years and we’ll leverage the strength of the Disney marketing associated with the Star Wars properties both in movies and other things that they may do over the timeframe. We’ll try to align those with that marketing, power the Disney has so it will get aligned with timing around the movies, but it won’t necessarily be aligned with the movie.

We’ve shown a trailer for one of the possible games that we’re going to make Battlefront and it’s got a lot of people very excited because it’s a very popular game from before. We have the team in DICE, building some early stages of various games and building them in Frostbite, so it will be a very exciting game play and you’ll hear more about it in the years to come, but we’re very excited about the opportunity.

Eric J. Sheridan – UBS Securities LLC

So you have a fair bit of flexibility to create content around the universe in general that J.J. Abrams and his team is going to build up with the Lucasfilm’s franchise. It’s not totally tied in just to the movies.

Blake J. Jorgensen

Yes, definitely very much – so, very much around the historical types of games as in play plus new games that we’re inventing around their content, around the broad Star Wars content, and around some of the new assets that they may produce over time as well.

spielberg hanks

It seems Spielberg's generosity has no bounds as he has just donated $10 million to The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Wearemoviegeeks.com write:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences received separate $10 million gifts from Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. In recognition of these gifts, the two main galleries on the lobby floor of the Academy Museum will be named for Katzenberg and Spielberg – The Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg Gallery and The Spielberg Family Gallery.

“I am so pleased to join with Jeffrey to help build this museum to celebrate, educate, and preserve the arts and sciences of motion pictures,” said Spielberg. “Having our family name on the lobby floor is a deeply personal way to say how much motion pictures and the Academy have meant to all our lives.”

“Both Steven and I recognize that film’s global impact deserves a museum that reflects its unequaled heritage and serves as a beacon for the future of what we love,” added Katzenberg. “Marilyn and I appreciate this opportunity to be part of such a significant project.”

Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs commented, “Steven and Jeffrey have elevated the art of filmmaking to new heights and have created some of the most beloved films of all time. They continue to be champions of our industry. Having them join us as we build the Academy Museum is an incredible honor. We are so grateful for their support and partnership.”

“We are building the world’s premier movie museum, and I cannot imagine doing this without the support of two of our industry’s most inspiring leaders,” said Academy CEO Dawn Hudson. “Their gifts will create the first galleries our visitors experience when entering the Museum.”

Check out this recently unearthed video from the official Star Wars Youtube channel.  George Lucas talks about the tasks of writing Star Wars.

This recently unearthed George Lucas interview covers the evolution of the first Star Wars script. Lucas, writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, says that his original screenplay was "way too big to make into a movie." He took the first third of his script and used that as the basis for what would become Episode IV. In the process of rewriting, he decided that Ben Kenobi was not necessary for the story after his duel with Darth Vader; in the original version of his rough draft, Kenobi lived, but Lucas realized it would be more interesting if Vader was to kill him, and Kenobi could take another form. After the success of the film, Lucas had to make other changes to the overall story. In the original concept, the Battle of Endor from Return of the Jedi was meant to take place on a Wookiee planet. Since Lucas had established Wookiees as being mechanically inclined by making Chewbacca an able co-pilot to Han Solo, he felt he could not use them for the final battle; thus, Ewoks were introduced. Similarly, since Obi-Wan Kenobi was killed, Lucas needed another Jedi Master who could train Luke Skywalker. This led to the creation of Yoda for The Empire Strikes Back.

r2d2 star wars vii

Our first confirmed cast member for Star Wars VII has just been posted over on the official Star Wars blog and its R2-D2.  What makes it even special is the R2 we will see on the screen is actually going to be fan made.  Good stuff!  It also means that R2 will NOT be CGI.

The blog tells us:

The first behind-the-scenes photo from Star Wars: Episode VII hit Twitter last Thursday, featuring director J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and a certain blue and white astromech droid — who StarWars.com can now confirm will indeed be in the film. But who are the two men standing behind Artoo, looking very protective of the “overweight glob of grease”?

Meet Lee Towersey and Oliver Steeples, Star Wars fans and members of the worldwide R2-D2 Builders Club. They create fully functioning, film-accurate astromech droids like the R2-D2 seen in the photo, and they’re officially part of the Creature Effects team for Star Wars: Episode VII. They didn’t apply for their jobs, but still had what is probably the best reference one could hope for.

“It all started when Kathleen Kennedy toured the R2-D2 Builders area at Celebration Europe this past summer in Germany,” says Steeples, who finished his first R2-D2 in 2007, after 10 years of collecting parts and researching. “She posed for pictures with us, looked at all the droids we’d built and was very complimentary. I mentioned that the R2-D2 Builders in the UK were available if required, as a semi-joke. When I was contacted to work on the film by [executive producer] Jason McGatlin, it was on her recommendation.”

The Game of the Year Edition includes all-five episodes of the award-winning series, plus the critically-acclaimed episode '400 Days,' as well as access to the series' original score and exclusive behind the scenes video.

Previously available only for download, '400 Days' bridges the gap between Season One and Season Two of the series, and was met with critical acclaim from websites such as Gamespot who awarded the episode an Editor's Choice rating, calling it,"...one of the most imaginative, gripping, brutal, and best-written stories that you will experience all year."

"This all-inclusive edition of The Walking Dead's first season is an incredibly exciting package for fans both old and new, and one of the best ways to catch up on the story before the upcoming premiere of Season Two," said Dan Connors, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games. "With the inclusion of '400 Days' and access to behind-the-scenes content and the emotionally-charged score from our long-time friend and composer Jared Emerson-Johnson, we're proud to offer this definitive edition of Season One."

Additionally, expected to premiere digitally later this year, The Walking Dead: Season Two - A Telltale Games Series will consist of five episodes that will be released for digital download over the course of the season and will conclude in 2014.  Players can save 10% off of the purchase price of the PC/Mac versions with a pre-order of the season pass, giving them access to all five episodes for the total cost of $22.49 USD or equivalent when ordering through the Telltale Online Store, or through the Steam digital distribution service.

To date, The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series has sold more than 21 million episodes worldwide, earning more than 90 Game of the Year honors from outlets including Metacritic, USA Today, Wired, Spike TV VGAs, Yahoo!, The Telegraph, Mashable, Polygon, Destructoid and GamesRadar, and was also the recipient of two BAFTA Video Games Awards for Best Story and Best Mobile Game.

dean cundey

The American Society of Cinematographers has named the three cameramen who will be receiving honorary recognition at next year's ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards on February 1. Dean Cundey, Eduardo Serra and Richard Rawlings, Jr. will all be celebrated for their careers' work.

Cundley, 67 has worked on movies such as Harry Potter and Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park.  Cundey has twice been nominated for the ASC Award, for "Apollo 13" and Spielberg's "Hook," missing out on an Oscar nod on both occasions -- somewhat surprisingly, in case of the former film. His lone Oscar nod to date came for the technical tour de force of Zemeckis' "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?"

john williams steven spielberg

Here's some good news.  John Williams has said he is likely to be working until he's 100.  You won't get any complaints here.  Inquirer have reported the news and in the article the composer has also said he  "is raring to work on Steven Spielberg’s “Indiana Jones 5.”

In the interview he also speaks of his relationship with Steven Spielberg:

“I have a little theory about Steven Spielberg, whose father, Arnold, is a most wonderful man,” said the Boston Pops’ Laureate Conductor. “Arnold is well into his 90s. He was always working. I think every man and woman thinks, if your father was working at 90, that’s also what you will do. So, I think Steven expects to be directing 25 years from now—and he fully expects me to be with him. I will be over 100 years old then, so I will do my best.”
He also mentions what his favourite work is:

“I always remember certain passages in ‘Close Encounters…’ that I particularly enjoy playing with orchestras, away from film, so that may be indicative of something.”
