There are always going to be bad movies but just because the movie is bad doesn't mean the soundtrack is going to be.  Unfortunately in a lot of cases if the movie is bad or bombed at the cinema then the soundtrack gets overlooked too which is a real shame because if you are a soundtrack fan you may be missing out on some fantastic scores.  So here are ten movies with great soundtracks

Howard The Duck - John Barry
The now famous George Lucas movie that unfortunately didn't live up to the expectations that everyone was expecting after that other movie by Mr Lucas but the soundtrack is sadly overlooked as a result.  I'm not talking about the fictional band Cherry Bomb or Thomas Dolby but the score that John Barry produced for the movie.  A moving score with great cues make it easily the best thing to come from the movie.

Godzilla (1998) David Arnold

The movie was hyped up beyond believe and turned out to be a monster of a let down.  The ever reliable David Arnold produced what some say is actually his best work.  If you loved the Independence Day soundtrack then you will love this.  The limited release complete score is now becoming rare and already goes for over $50 on Amazon

Armageddon - Trevor Rabin (Yes that's correct!)

If you listen to the soundtrack to Armageddon you will think you are listening to a Hans Zimmer soundtrack.  But it is Trevor Rabin who produced this masterpiece.  Atmospheric, upbeat and dramatic with its synthesized sounds and full orchestra make this a must.  One of Trevor Rabin's finest.

Pearl Harbor - Hans Zimmer

Another Michael Bay travesty with the only redeeming feature being the soundtrack.  A soundtrack that gets criticised for being too short at around forty five minutes but its quality not quantity.  It also shows that Zimmer can do more that the "Pirates Of The Caribbean" style soundtrack we are used to from the composer (which is no bad thing.)  This is soft romantic and very moving.  Unlike the movie.

1941 - John Williams

Some say 1941 was release before its time.  A movie that most people just didn't get.  Anyway what ever the reason the movie lingers at the bottom of most "worst movie" lists.  But the soundtrack by John Williams has probably become more famous than the movie itself.  Upbeat and uplifting.  A great soundtrack which should not be overlooked especially by John Williams fans

Speed 2 Cruise Control - Mark Mancina

The soundtrack is so upbeat, so fast moving unlike the movie which is about a luxury liner that has a top speed of thirty knots!  Great soundtrack though, just wish it was attached to a different movie.

Superman III - Ken Thorne

After the first two Superman movies I was looking forward to the third so much.  Imagine my disappointment when the movie wasn't up to scratch.  I wasn't expecting much from the soundtrack either since John Williams wasn't at the helm but actually the soundtrack isn't bad at all and Ken Thorne does an excellent job.  The soundtrack really does punch above the awful movie its attached too.  Quirky and with some imaginative cues.

Jaws 3 - Alan Parker

The same applies with Jaws 3 for me.  No John Williams but the soundtrack is rather good with a slight turn in direction to what we were expecting.  I must say Alan Parker must have felt the pressure taking on this project.  Okay its not going to match the likes of the first two movies which rank as two of the best soundtracks ever but if you ignore this then you will enjoy a complete and enjoyable soundtrack.  I particularly like the opening which has a great eighties feel to it.  At about 1m52s in you will really get to feel how good this soundtrack is.  Its a real shame the movie was the worse of the four (only just mind as Jaws the revenge is really bad.)

The Village - James Newton Howard

The film sent me to sleep.  I was so disappointed with this film as I am quite the M Night Shyamalan fan loving Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs and dare I say it Lady In The Water (yes I was the one.)  But this film is slow and unfortunately quite predictable.  But as with all of Shyamalan films he chooses James Newton Howard to produce the soundtrack and he doesn't let us down.  A Celtic feel is brought to this score but as always with Newton's work a sense of mysterious and spookiness is mixed in to make this a must listen and a great addition to anyones soundtrack collection.  Speaking of Lady In The Water...

Lady In The Water - James Newton Howard

As previously mentioned I actually enjoyed this movie.  But the movie got panned worldwide and picked up a few Razzies for its troubles.  But the soundtrack is a masterpiece.  Again James Newton Howard delivers what for me is one of my favourites.  Just listen to this clip as the music actually builds to an uplifting gorgeous piece of music.  The beginning of this clip actually reminds me a bit of John Williams Artificial Intelligence.  If you are going to pick one soundtrack from this list then my recommendation would be to pick this one.  You will not be disappointed

Battlefield Earth?
Errrr! No!

So there you have it.  My list of some of the best soundtracks attached to generally regarded as bad movies.  Can you think of any we've missed out?  Let us know below.

national geographic angry birds star wars.

Children love Star Wars. Children love Angry Birds so combining the two was pure genius by Rovio.  Now what happens when you combine a bit of learning with Star Wars Angry Birds.  Sounds like one ingredient too many right?  Wrong!  You end up with this superb book called National Geographic Angry Birds Star Wars:  The Science Behind The Saga.

The book, cleverly written by Amy Briggs is packed with science facts related to the Star Wars saga but is done in such a way that makes every page a must read.  Every page is packed with colours shouting out at you and features everyone's favourite Angry Birds characters like Red Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kaboomi and Lard Vader.

The book is packed with facts and every one of them informative to adults and children.  Did you know that a hologram pixel is called a "hogel?"  No, neither did I.  Another fact explains how the tractor beam that was used to bring the Falcon into the Death Star is not that far-fetched.  Scientist have developed a Tractor Beam that can move microscopic particles along a beam of light and reverse the process so they move up the beam of light.

Modern Day Light Sabers A Reality
The book is full of illustrations from Angry Birds Star Wars along with photos of real life technology.  It's amazing how close we are to discovering some of the cool things we see in Star Wars that we only thought was science fiction.  Holograms, Light Sabers and Land Speeders are just around the corner.

This would be an ideal book for a child wanting to know more about science and technology and still have fun along the way.  It's also a great addition to a Star Wars fans collection (like me.)  The book is the official companion to Rovio's Angry Birds Star Wars and is in collaboration with the games studio and Lucasfilm.

The book hits the shelves on September 17th and will also feature content from the new Angry Birds Star Wars II which is allso out in September.  Pre-order your copy now.

Madonna has pipped Steven Spielberg in this year's Forbes top-earning celebrities list.

Grabbing an estimated $125 million for the period between June 2012 to June 2013, the 55-year-old icon rocketed ahead of Steven Spielberg, who ended up at #2 with about $100 million.

Her massive success comes mostly thanks to her MDNA world tour, which grossed $305 million, with merchandise sales and other business ventures making up the rest.

Rounding out the top ten were Simon Cowell, EL James, Howard Stern, author James Patterson, Glen Beck, Michael Bay, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Lady Gaga.

Yesterday we posted a story that several newspapers were reporting that Michael Caine was concerned over the health of Sean Connery.  Well the good news is this seems to be complete rubbish.

Sir Michael Caine has responded to this story which the Daily Mirror posted saying, “It’s all bulls****"

“I did some interviews over in Germany for a new film and I can only assume someone has twisted my words or got the wrong end of the stick.

“I haven’t seen Sean for a couple of years, but my wife and I spoke to him on the phone on his birthday this week and he was very well.

“He was fine, in complete control of his senses and his usual self.

“This stuff about Alzheimer’s is just nonsense. I have no idea where they are getting it from.”

“Articles also say Sean lives in Spain which you, of course, know not to be true. “Honestly, I don’t want to give this story any credence by responding.”

This is really good news and so happy the story was false.

Sean Connery 2012

The Daily Mail posted a story today that fills me with sadness.  Not only the photos showing a frail Sean Connery but the news that he is 'no longer in control of his senses' and losing his memory according to close friend Michael Caine.  The news comes from an interview with German newspaper Bild am sonntag Caine.

Michael Caine said of the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade star, 'One must have serious concerns for him.'  Bild said the loss of his memory is 'noticeable' and that only a few close friends and confidantes, like Caine, had access to him.

We wish Mr Connery and his family the best in these difficult times.

If you go to IMDB and look at everything Denise Vasquez has done it makes you realise how busy (and talented) some people are.  Not only has she had roles in numerous movies and TV shows such as Total Recall, The Office and Iron Man 3, but she is also an active founder of  "Wo+men 4 A Cause".  She is also an poet, award winning singer, songwriter, designer, writer, speaker and producer.  Incredible!

As it says on IMDB, Denise Vasquez was selected as "Worthy Connections" Honoree and featured in "The Direct Buzz Magazine" May 2010 for her outstanding work with "Wo+men 4 A Cause" and the community!

She also works with Daisy Rock Guitars, Audix Microphones, Sakura USA, HK Holbein, AFTRA and ASCAP. Nominated for 5 Mavric Music Awards, Nominated by the LA Music Awards for Vocalist of the year and Album of the year.  Denise Vasquez has also been listed on Music Connection Magazines' HOT 100 List for six Consecutive years, and has been a recipient of the ASCAP PLUS Performing Songwriters Award for 5 years.

You can see why the media call her a "modern day renaissance woman."

The Bearded Trio are really happy she took the time to answer our questions.

You're stuck in a swamp on Dagobah. What one movie, TV show, album and book would you take?
Ooohhh I love questions like this! Lets see…
The X Files

Movie: Star Wars

TV Show: X-Files
Album: Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Book: “Talent Is Never Enough” by John C. Maxwell

If you could invite any three people (alive or not, fictitious or not) to a dinner party, who would they be?
The Dalai Lama, John Lennon, Richard Pryor

What is your favourite John Williams soundtrack?
As a musician who sings, plays guitar and writes my own music, I have to say that John Williams is one of the greatest composers of all time!!! I love ALL of his music! It’s really hard having to pick one, but since I do, I would say “ET”.

If you were invisible for a day what would be the first thing you would do?
Ooooohhhhh. Where do I start! LOL! Hmmmmmmm…The first thing I would do is find JJ Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy in a meeting, pretend to be a ghost telling them to hire me as an actress for the Star Wars movies! ;-)

When was the last time you cried?
I cried laughing so hard yesterday while writing comedy with my buddy Debora Giannone!

What is your biggest fear?
My biggest fear is that I die before I accomplish all of my goals!

What was the most embarrassing moment of your life?
Years ago, before I had my current management team (Achieve A Dream) working with me, I was given a script by someone (no need to mention names) and was told that I was being called in for a specific role for a movie audition. I worked on the role, was ready to read for the role I was told to prepare and when I arrived at the audition, everyone in the room was totally confused. They told me I was misinformed and told to prepare the wrong role. Talk about a miscommunication! DOH! I was soooooo embarrassed and annoyed to say the least…BUT I did my work and knew the script so I was able to do a cold reading on the spot for the other role.

Excluding search engines, what three websites would you choose if no other websites were available?
Twitter, Facebook, Vine

Do you have any guilty pleasures?
I love skinny dipping in the ocean under a full moon (I miss living on St John in the Virgin Islands), I LOVE coffee and I’m addicted to Gummy Bears!

What are you looking forward to the most in the next six months?
Doing something I’ve dreamed of and have been working towards my entire life…Doing Stand-Up Comedy! Just booked my first show at “Flappers Comedy Club” http://www.flapperscomedy.com
Sept 17th in the “LMAO Comedy Show” in the Yoo Hoo Room! Be sure to “Like” Denise Vasquez Actress Page on Facebook to keep up with my acting career http://www.facebook.com/DeniseVasquezActress

What is your most treasured possession?
Hmmmm…I’m not really big on material things…I would say the Cuatro Guitar my Grandfather Brought for me in Puerto Rico and gave to me as a gift just before he passed away.

What is your biggest regret? I have to say I really don’t have any regrets! Everything I’ve experienced in my life, all the lessons on my journey, has made me the woman I am today! I love my journey! I love my lessons! I love my growth! I love my life! I love who I am, who I’m becoming and I am truly happy! Anyone who has ever met me in person can see it and feel it in my smile! I’ve always worked hard and gone after what I want in life because I don’t ever want to think “should’ve could’ve would’ve” or “what if”. I’m living my life focusing on myself and; my dreams and continue enjoying the ride while working really hard to accomplish them! I’m daring to dream and LIVING them!

What are you most proud of?
I’m proud of myself for staying positive, happy and focused on my dreams through all the hardships I’ve survived my entire life! Abuse, Bullying, Illness, near death experiences, and so much more…I’m a warrior…I’m a survivor…I’m a Woman With A Cause…I’m living my dreams and I’m truly happy!

What is your favourite Spielberg movie?
I Love all of Spielbergs’ movies and hope to work with him someday soon, but my all time favorite is “Close Encounters Of The Third Kind”

"Jurassic Park 3D" opened in China on Tuesday and brought in a strong $6.3 million on 2,500 screens to debut at No. 1.  That's the fourth strongest opening day in for a movie this year in China.

2013 marks the 20th anniversary of the Spielberg directed movie and what better way to celebrate than to mark the occasion with the franchise passing the $1 Billion mark worldwide.

The total international box office for "Jurassic Park 3D" stands at $20.7 million but the movie hasn't finished yet with the dinosaur adventure set to open this weekend in Mexico, Panama, Spain and Britain.

Watch the trailer for Jurassic Park 3D which for some reason uses some awful music half way through the trailer and totally mixes up John Williams' masterpiece.

On the same day that we bring you the news that Cinematographer Daniel Mindel is to work with J.J. Abrams on Star Wars Episode VII, we also have to bring the sad news that cinematographer for the first Star Wars film has died age 99.  Gilbert Taylor had an incredible career and also worked on many other notable movies including The Dam Busters, Dr Strangelove and The Omen.

His time on Star Wars was not plain sailing.  In his own words he said in a recent interview with American Cinematographer magazine.

"George avoided all meetings and contact with me from day one," Taylor would later tell

"So I read the extra-long script many times and made my own decisions as to how I would shoot the picture."

The BBC News Site writes:

Taylor's distinguished career included six years with the Royal Air Force during World War II, shooting the results of night-time raids over Germany at the request of Winston Churchill.

He went on to become a founder member of the British Society of Cinematographers, which presented him with a lifetime achievement award in 2001.

Taylor also worked on television, shooting episodes for such 1960s series as The Avengers and The Baron.

Thanks Gilbert for making Star Wars look so good.  May The Force Be With You.

It seems George Lucas is a big fan of coffee.  Starbucks coffee anyway as he has just bought $10 million in stock from the company.

TheWrap.com write:

George Lucas has bought $10 million in Starbucks stock, a sign of confidence in the company where his wife Mellody Hobson is a member of the board, according to an SEC filing.

A new filing by Hobson, Lucas’s wife and a Starbucks board member, revealed that Lucas's GWL Living trust bought 141,573 shares on August 19 for an average price of $70.60. Lucas is the sole trustee and beneficiary of the trust.

Hobson is a hugely successful executive in her own right and married Lucas in June (photo by Donna Newman). In addition to her investment work and Starbucks, she is the chairman of Dreamworks Animation and a director at Estee Lauder and Groupon.

Cinematographer Daniel Mindel who is a long time collaborator with J.J. Abrams is set to continue the collaboration as it was announced he will be joining Abrams on Star Wars VII.

Also announced yesterday was that the new Star Wars movie will be shot on 35MM film and not digital like Star Wars Episode II and III.

The cynical Internet trolls have already started, stating that the main reason for this was that its easier for lens flare.  The real reason is experience.  J.J. Abrams has said never shot with digital and has even commented in the past that he is comfortable with shooting on film.

Kathleen Kennedy has previously said that the new movie will be sensible with CGI and will use proper sets and models where its practical to use.  Using film instead of digital could also indicate that the CGI is to be throttled back compared to other modern movies.

the walking dead vita
The best game of 2013 is now available on PS Vita.  Telltale games who brought us Tales of Monkey Island and Sam & Max now treat us to The Walking Dead on the portable game console.

As Telltale Games themselves put it:

This version is an awesome way to experience The Walking Dead, whether you're dipping your toe into the water for the first time, or looking to catch up on any episodes you might have missed. Even if you've already played through the whole season on PS3, there's an additional set of Trophies for playing the series on PS Vita. We've even added some special features just for PS Vita: you can play with analog controls and face buttons, or get a little more intimate with the interaction by switching to touchscreen only.

Remember, fans of the series should keep those save files, because Season Two is expected to hit PS Vita later this year as well. Hope you're ready for the portable undead onslaught!

Seriously if you haven't played this game yet then you are missing out on some of the finest gaming atmosphere and tension ever.  Enjoy the video below.

Now this is good. Peter Hollens providing the vocals and Lindsey Stirling dressed as Princess Leia perform Star Wars on the violins.

Definitely a must watch.
