star wars vii

Remember Blue Harvest?  Yes the codename for Return of the Jedi.  Well according to rumours and a little speculation it seems Lucasfilm will be using a production alias for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII.  Over at Jedi News they've got a scoop from a very reliable source that the code name this time will be Foodles.

Foodles Productions Ltd, a company registered on 26th March 2013 to the Disney headquarters in London.

Also mentioned in Jedi News report is an August start date for the production. Early 2014 has been cited before, but I do know pre-production work has been underway for a good while, so I’m prepared to believe the report is right.

lucasfilm

Lucasfilm and Disney have registered a series of domain names.  Recently these have led to games for smart phones and similar devices.  I wouldn't bet against the name Star Wars Attack Squadrons being another game for app stores.

‘Star Wars Attack Squadrons’ (or some variation thereof) is one of the two. Domains registered by Lucasfilm include: attacksquadron.org, attacksquadron.us, attacksquadrons.org, attacksquadrons.us, attacksquads.org, attacksquads.us, starwarsattacksquadrons.org, starwarsattacksquadrons.us, starwarssquad.org, starwarssquad.us, starwarssquadrons.org, starwarssquadrons.us, starwarssquads.org, starwarssquads.us, swattacksquadron.org, swattacksquadron.us, swattacksquadrons.org and swattacksquadrons.us.

Frank Gibeau explained that "We showed 22 seconds of where we're going with it and the fan response was very positive. The DICE team is well into development on that product already, so we feel very bullish about our shooter rotation over the next several years."
He went on to reveal that the game will switch between a first and "a third-person component" although how that will be utilised is currently unknown.

tha mike pilot

This week on our quick fire questions we are lucky to have Tha Mike Pilot.  Mike needs no introduction as he co-hosts one of the best Star Wars podcasts on this planet, Full of Sith.  With eight years of podcasting experience under his belt and hosting two other shows (Obviously Oblivious and The Mediocre show its no surprise that Mike's podcasts oozes quality.

As well as his podcasts, Mike also has a design business called MikePilotDesign.  If you're after vinyl stickers then this is the place to go.  I'm not kidding this site really needs to be seen to be believed. MikePilotDesign enough.
There are dozens of designs are stupidly low prices.  The good thing is and I can say this from experience, if you don't see a design you like just send Mike and email and before you know it you're design is landing on your door.  Cannot recommend

Let begin our quick fire questions.

You're stuck in a swamp on Dagobah. What one movie, TV show, album and book would you take?
Of course my movie is going to be Episode V, the Empire Strikes Back. It's my favorite of all time and one I never get tired of watching. The TV show is much harder to answer, do I take classic Simpsons, Sons of Anarchy, Walking Dead, the Sopranos, Breaking Bad? I guess right now, Game of Thrones because so much is going on, I could watch it a few more times anyway. The album would Top Dead Celebrity's Midwestern Rube. Not only is the Salt Lake City based band good friends but I am a huge fan as well. Finally the book would be Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle, Hollywood gave the book Eragon a horrible face but the books are some of the best i've ever read. If all four aren't possible to take, I always have a copy of Bryan Young's Operation Montauk on me.

If you could invite any three people (alive or not, fictitious or not) to a dinner party, who
nikola tesla
would they be?
Nikola Tesla, Darth Vader and George Lucas. I'd like to have my wife there so if she counts as one of the three, sorry George, she comes first.

If you were invisible for a day what would be the first thing you would do?
I'd love to say something clever or meaningful, but honestly, I'm me and I love messing with people so, I'd follow family members around and make them think there was a poltergeist present.

When was the last time you cried?
Every time I see the Budweiser Brotherhood commercial from this past year's super bowl... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2prAccclXs&feature=youtu.be Man that kills me.

What is your biggest fear?
Losing my wife or daughter, or not being around for them anymore.

What is your favourite John Williams soundtrack?
Of course I have to say The Empire Strikes Back, so many amazing and important pieces of music on that one.

What was the most embarrassing moment of your life?
Over the 7 plus years of being completely open and honest on all my shows, listeners know there isn't much that embarrasses me. If I really think about it, when I interviewed the great astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, I was a total fanboy and stammered thru a lot of my questions.

Excluding search engines, what three website would you choose if no other websites were available?

Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Oh, I have so many that most people would call guilty pleasures, however if someone likes something, they should never feel guilty about it, it's just a pleasure. My friend Jeff Anderson from Top Dead Celebrity said that in an interview on I AM Salt Lake podcast a few weeks back and it really hit home. Some of mine, singing girly songs in the car with my daughter and even when they come up on shuffle when I'm alone. Tearing up at cheesy romantic comedies or commercials, drinking flavorful, tasty alcholic beverages over manly ones like single malt scotch or Canadian whisky.

What are you looking forward to the most in the next six months?
Getting Pacific Rim on Blu-ray and being six months closer to Star Wars Episode VII.

kenner atat
What is your most treasured possession?
I do EVERYTHING on my iPhone, it would be hard to live without it, however last Christmas I found myself an Original AT-AT in fantastic condition to replace my childhood one which was stolen. Every time I'm in my Star Wars room and I look at it, I smile.

What is your biggest regret?
I regret nothing, seriously. Every choice and everything I've ever done, stupid or not has lead me to where I am in my life and who I am. I wouldn't want to change a thing.

What are you most proud of?
In equal parts, being my wife's husband and friend, being my daughters father and friend and those incredible moments when I see my ALL three shows listed in the top 20 iTunes podcasts at the same time.

What is your favourite Spielberg movie?
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade hands down.

Where can people keep in touch or follow you?
http://www.thamike.com has all my contact information and how to find all my shows.Facebook.com/thamike and @thamike on twitter too.

Thanks Mike for your great answers.  Please check out Mike's podcasts and leave them a review on Itunes.  Also don't forget to head to his design business MikePilotDesign.com.  you won't be sorry.

john williams confirmed

YEEEESSSS!!!  John Williams will return to score Star Wars Episode VII.  Its official!  Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed.

Kennedy, who is serving as producer on the JJ Abrams-directed Episode VII, made the announcement at the Star Wars Celebration event in Essen, Germany.

"I had breakfast with someone very important to the Star Wars family last Friday, and he has committed to working on Episode VII. And that is Mr John Williams," Kennedy said.

"Every time I hear John's music, it just gives me the chills. It's so important to the saga."

John Williams said in a pre-recorded message at Celebration Europe that classic Star Wars themes will be incorporated into Episode VII.  This is going to be the must have soundtrack of the 21st Century.

"Of course I haven't seen the script, the new story is still unknown to me, but I can't imagine that there won't be some references to the existing stories that we know that would necessitate and make appropriate the use of earlier themes," he said.

  • Abrams still on board for Star Wars VII

When such a huge movie such as Star Wars VII gets announced, its always inevitable that web trolling goes hand in hand with the announcement.  Whether its to generate traffic to their website or just for fun it's still annoying and a cheap trick.  Anyway the latest rumour doing the round was that Abrams was set to leave Star Wars due to the filming taking place in the UK.  A certain website decided to post the story which we won't link to.  Well Lucasfilm and Disney quickly debunked this rumour and we can all be relieved in knowing that the spectacle wearing director is still on board.  A spokesperson for Lucasfilm said:

“There is no truth to the rumor, JJ is having a great time working on the script and is looking forward to going into production next year.”

Steven Spielberg will be joining film composer John Williams and the Phoenix Symphony for a benefit concert Saturday, Sept. 28. Spielberg, will show clips from his films with and without their scores to talk about the function of music in the cinema.

Williams and Spielberg are donating their time for the concert, with proceeds going to the symphony’s education and community-outreach programs. The event is one of the first performances of the 2013-14 season, which the symphony is billing as a season of “Big Names and Big Music.”

Jim Ward, president and CEO of the symphony, calls it a “master class in film and score.”

Ward, who joined the symphony in 2011, previously worked as president of LucasArts and senior vice president of Lucasfilm, producer of both the “Star Wars” films and the Spielberg-directed Indiana Jones adventures. It was there that he got to know Williams, the Academy Award-winning composer who scored both of those series and collaborated with Spielberg on such other films as “Jaws,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan” and “Lincoln.”

Wayne Knight was talking to a small group of media at Comic Con and revealed how he would like to get a part in Jurassic Park IV.

"It was a very big meal and a very small dinosaur," he said when toofab asked about appearing in the upcoming flick. "It was different from the book. In the book he crushes his head and all this kinda stuff. I'm thinking, why not play a one-armed guy with an eye patch? I could come back!"

Knight also reveals the moment when he found out he got the part in Jurassic Park.

"The biggest moment, best moment was getting cast because it was out of nowhere," says Knight. "My agent said, 'Are you sitting down? Steven Spielberg called, he wants to put you in Jurassic Park.' I didnt audition for it. I think he saw me sweating and staring closely at Sharon Stone [in 'Basic Instinct'] and thought, 'What if that were a dinosaur?'"

star wars battlefront ii

Whatculture.com have listed the top 50 Star Wars games you must play.  That's some task as there are quite a few and some play worse than my original VHS copy of Empire Strikes Back.

We’ve had LucasArts to thanks for some of the best Star Wars games, and indeed some of the worst, and then there’s the other outside tie-ins and retro era titles. In short, it’s been a veritable feast, and with Battlefront upcoming and likely tie-ins and spin-offs from the new Disney powered franchise it’s not set to stop growing any time soon.

So the question remains, with this over abundance of games, the question must be asked where to start?

spielberg and lucas

This Saturday, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg hosted a panel debate at an independent film festival the two had chosen to dedicate to themselves. At the event, the two highly praised filmmakers mostly talked about problems facing the world of cinema.

However, Spielberg and Lucas also dedicated a significant chunk of the event to talk about other mediums, expressing their skepticism to non-cinematic art forms.

“Other mediums are inferior to film”, Spielberg told the crowd, whilst Lucas nodded in approval. ”Many people are not aware that there are other mediums where the pictures don’t even move. Hell, some mediums don’t have pictures at all”, Lucas added, urging any potential art collectors in the audience to be wary of ‘incomplete films’, such as paintings and music.

When a member of the audience asked what the two filmmakers thought of video games as a form of art, Spielberg was keen to provide his insight on the games industry. “The problem with games is the controller. The second you get the controller something turns off in the heart, and it becomes a sport. Scientific studies on the human heart confirm this.”

Spielberg brought up the experience he gained from being the lead designer behind Boom Blox for Nintendo Wii. “Boom Blox was intended to be a moving story about a man who suffers from the untimely death of his wife, and who has to reconcile himself with the idea of love. However, once the game controller was involved, Boom Blox turned into a game about blowing up blocks that look like farm animals. This is why games can’t be art.”

Lucas noted that new technology like Microsoft’s Kinect, which would see the player losing the controller in favour of using body gestures, could help advance video games as an artistic platform. “When I first tried the Kinect I played in poorly lit conditions, so the device didn’t recognise all of my gestures. I got frustrated, then I started to feel upset, then angry. That camera made me feel. Now, that’s art.”

When asked if he had tried games like The Walking Dead, Journey and The Last of Us – games where empathy serves as a central aspect of the experience, Spielberg replied in the negative.
“No, I haven’t tried those games, but if they use a controller then they simply cannot be as artistic and daring as Indiana Jones IV.”

Harrison Ford was at this year's Comic-Con to promote his new movie Ender's Game, but unfortunately for the movie promoters the media were more interested in Indiana Jones and Star Wars.

The 71-year-old seemed happy to chat through his past projects at the convention, including one question which asked if Han Solo would make a good soldier for Col. Hyrum Graff- the character he plays in Ender's Game.

Referring to the fan's declaration that he used to want to be Indiana Jones, Ford responded: "You know, you and I have a lot in common. I used to dream about being Indiana Jones when I was younger. Not so much anymore."

He added: "I don't think Han Solo would be good as a soldier in anybody's army. I think he's what we call now an independent contractor."

Another enthusiast asked what would happen if - "lightsabres aside" - Solo and Jones ever came face-to-face.

"Hi, how are you?," Ford said - before shaking his head, removing his glasses and rubbing his eyes, to rapturous laughter from the audience.
