Its confirmed! Michael Bay is to direct one of the Star Wars standalone movies.  The news broke early this morning and was totally unexpected as Bay was not on anyone's radars.  Bay released this statement to accompany the news:

"I am very excited about directing one of the Star Wars movies.  I know what character the movie will be about but I personally know nothing about him (Yes its a he.)  Unfortunately I have not been keeping up to date with Star Wars and only recently watched Episode One."

"What I will say is I am looking forward to bringing my unique style to the universe, I want to draw a line in the sand and start fresh."

"I can't say too much about the project but I will say it will be actioned packed and full of space explosions.  Just what fans like.  I can't wait to get my hands dirty."

So there you have it.  One things for sure, we know the movie will be loud and extremely intense.  It's a well known fact that on the set of Star Wars, George Lucas used to repeatedly tell the cast after a take, "okay one more time, this time faster and more intense."  We know Bay's movies are just this and I wonder if this is one of the reasons why he got the gig?

We'll keep you updated as the news unfolds.

  1. In other news: Uwe Boll signed on to direct the pilot episode of the long awaited TV series. Reportedly, it will star a certain well loved Gungan character and his as yet unnamed Ewok sidekick...
