Latest Star Wars Blog Talks About Star Wars in the UK: Late ’70s, Early ’80s

Something that's close to my heart is remembering Star Wars in the 70's and 80's.  I was old lucky enough to remember the first time Star Wars hit the UK and being excited over any snippet of Star Wars news on our three (yes three!) TV stations or in our newspapers at the time.

Mark Newbold & James Burns have had their article published on the official Star Wars blog and they write about this very subject.  Its a great read and will bring back great memories.

We had to wait seven long months for the greatest adventure in the galaxy to reach our shores. Unlike today when major films enjoy simultaneous international releases, back in the ’70s and well into the ’90s the UK (in pre-pirate video and bit torrent days) would get the big American releases a number of months later and Star Wars was no exception. Released on 27 December 1977, the film was already a phenomenon and kids had heard word of a film that had taken America by storm. But this news wasn’t spread by tweets or Facebook updates.
