tim curry clone wars stop eating my sesame cake

Bryan Young over at The Huffington Post has had the green light from Lucasfilm to announce that Tim Curry of Congo (stop eating my sesame cake), IT and Rocky Horror Picture Show will be joining the cast of The Clone Wars as Chancellor Palpatine no less.

With the passing of the most excellent Ian Abercrombie the voice of the chancellor had to be filled.  Dave Filoni on the role:

We had an extensive search to find a new voice for Palpatine. It wasn't just a matter of finding an actor who could to recreate lines from the films. We needed someone to deliver a performance that could stand alongside what Ian McDiarmid and Ian Abercrombie created as this legendary Star Wars character. At the end of the day, there is little question that bringing in an actor of Tim's caliber was perfect for Chancellor Palpatine.

Head over to Brian's article to read the full and detailed article.  Great read.

Well this is also good news isn't it for The Clone Wars.  This more or less guarantees The Clone Wars will continue.  Why else would they hire new cast members?

Steven Spielberg will head the jury at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, slated for May 15-26, organizers have announced.
In announcing Spielberg's selection, festival President Gilles Jacob said the 66-year-old American director is a "Cannes 'regular'," noting that several of his 27 films, including "Sugarland Express" and "The Color Purple," screened at the festival. "Sugarland" won the best screenplay award at the festival in 1974.
But it was with "E.T." -- which screened at the festival in 1982, "that ties were made of the type you never forget," Jacob said.
"Ever since, I’ve often asked Steven to be jury president, but he’s always been shooting a film," Jacob said in a statement. "So when this year I was told 'E.T., phone home,' I understood and immediately replied: 'At last!' "
Said Spielberg: “The memory of my first Cannes Film Festival, nearly 31 years ago with the debut of 'E.T.', is still one of the most vibrant memories of my career. For over six decades, Cannes has served as a platform for extraordinary films to be discovered and introduced to the world for the first time. It is an honor and a privilege to preside over the jury of a festival that proves, again and again, that cinema is the language of the world.”

lcars the emmisary

I was watching Season two of Star Trek The Next Generation (The Emissary) on the Sci-fi Scy-fy Syfy channel in glorious HD tonight and realised for the first time you can easily read the text on the LCAR displays.  In one scene the female Klingon K'ehleyr asks the computer to list holodeck simulations.  The picture above is what was listed.  Now my question is, which member of the crew would be using the holodeck to be soaking up the atmosphere of the Rio carnival?

Who do you think?  I'm placing money on Worf.

clone wars gif

So as I write this there has been no official announcement regarding season six of Star Wars The Clone Wars.  We all know that Disney bought Lucasfilm late last year and as a result we all expected The Clone Wars to jump ship from The Cartoon Network to Disney.  When The Cartoon Network last month published their TV line up for the following year The Clone Wars was missing from that line up.  I expected Disney to chip in and say they were showing season six on one of their channels but so far we've had nothing.  Yesterday I asked someone at Disney Online if they could give any information regarding the show and sadly was met with very little information. What was said was:

"Unfortunately, we do not have information on future programs until they are
officially announced."

Now you can accuse me of clutching at straws here but that last bit intrigued me. "...until they are officially announced." Does that mean that an announcement is imminent regarding The Clone Wars? If it was dead in the water for The Clone Wars wouldn't that response be different? Yes I'm being optimistic but that one statement, to me makes me think that talks are being held.

What do you think?

Now you have got to watch this new web series from director John Griffith.  It is a tongue-in-cheek web series following the now famous discussions between Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan on the creation of Indiana Jones.  Its a must see.

'The Raiders Sessions' is an web series following the zany exploits of Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan while creating 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. Inspired by the transcripts of their actual meetings in 1978.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Mark Wahlberg reveals he turned down a role in the 2009 Star Trek directed by J.J. Abrams.

Apparently, J.J. Abrams offered Wahlberg the role of Captain Kirk’s dad (a part that eventually went to Chris Hemsworth) but Wahlberg turned it down.

His reasoning: "I tried to read the script, but I couldn't understand the words or dialogue or anything, and I said, I couldn't do this." He eventually did see the movie and thought Abrams did a great job.

Do you think Wahlberg would have been a good addition to Star Trek or are you still trying to get over The Happening?  Let us know.

rancho obi-wan logo

Now that is good news.  If you're attending Celebration Europe II in Germany this July then you're in for a treat.  Rancho Obi-Wan today announced they will be there.  This is the first time the exhibition will be outside of the United States.

From StarWarsCelebration.EU
The Rancho Obi-Wan Experience, a specially-selected group of Star Wars memorabilia from the world’s largest private collection, will be part of the activities at Star Wars Celebration Europe in Essen, Germany July 26th to 28th.

“We had a great time introducing Rancho Obi-Wan to thousands of fans at Celebration VI in Orlando last year, and are thrilled to be invited to share the experience with fans and collectors in Europe this year,” says Steve Sansweet, owner of the collection and president of the nonprofit Rancho Obi-Wan Inc. in northern California, a 9,000 square foot (836 m2) museum.

Not only will fans at Celebration Europe be able to see this first-time exhibition of Rancho Obi-Wan outside of the United States, they will be able to meet the world-renowned Star Wars fan and author behind the collection as well. Sansweet will be present in the Rancho Obi-Wan exhibit much of the time to greet fans, and is scheduled to take part in programming at the show. This will be a rare treat for fans at Celebration Europe.

“We are making our selections now, but we will be bringing an assortment of items related to the making of the films and the merchandise, vintage toys that collectors rarely have a chance to see in person, and many one-of-a-kind pieces,” Sansweet added.

Rancho Obi-Wan also will have a limited amount of logo souvenir merchandise available as well as some of Sansweet’s 16 Star Wars books. Steve will be happy to sign anything appropriate that fans bring to the show. There also will be giveaways and special prize drawings in the 690 square-foot (64m2) booth.Attendees also will be able to purchase Rancho Obi-Wan memberships and get their personalized membership kits on site, as well as get full information about guided tours of the museum

klingon into darkness

The Klingons will make an appearance in "Star Trek Into Darkness"  according to director J.J. Abrams.

Abrams spoke with MTV about the return of the honourable race after they were cut from the 2009 film.  If you haven't seen the three minute scene then you can watch the scene below.
Abrams said:
"We shot some stuff that had some Klingons in it and we ended up cutting the scene ... it's a deleted scene on the DVD," said Abrams. "But they are back in this one."
"They're role in [the 'Star Trek' sequel] is definitely that of adversary, and you'll see how that plays out. But you don't have to know about any pre-existing stories to watch this film."
klingon countdown to darkness
If you have been reading the prequel comic leading up to the events in Star Trek Into Darkness then you will have already encountered a few Klingons.  The comic prequels comics are called Star Trek Countdown To Darkness and has featured a Klingon on one of the covers.
Abrams revealed a bit more information about Dr. Carol Marcus (played by Alice Eve in the sequel), who first appeared in Star Trek II The Wrath Of Khan as a love interest for James T. Kirk.
"[Kirk] meets her fairly early on ... she plays a science officer, she's part of the adventure," said Abrams. "It's a hard thing to do ... it's very much an action adventure movie and once that gets going it's a difficult thing to sort of park the story and say, 'Let's do a romantic interlude.' But her role is important; she wouldn't be in the movie otherwise."

I need your Star Wars memories for a book
This weeks quick fire questions are kindly being answered by Consetta Parker.
Consetta appears on the excellent Full Of Sith podcast along with Tha Mike Pilot and Bryan Young.  Consetta is also founder of, and runs Parker Publicity, where she represents such clients as Clone Wars James Arnold Taylor and Catherine Taber.  As if that wasn't enough, she is also a media consultant for none other than Rancho Obi-Wan.  Talk about keeping busy!
With all that going on it was nice of Consetta to spare a few minutes to answer our questions.  So lets fire away.

1 You're stuck in a swamp on Dagobah.  What one movie, TV show, album and book would you take?
My initial thought is I’d take The Empire Strikes Back (for landscape references and it’s my favorite Star Wars film), my Buffy DVD’s, The Monkees “listen to the Band” CD boxed set  and my Jedi Journal I’ve been keeping since the fourth grade.

2 If you could invite any three people (alive or not, fictitious or not) to a dinner party, who would they be?
Han Solo, Tony Stark and Chief Brody. (if it could be non-human and were more of a picnic in the park: Pegasus,  Shadowfax and a TaunTaun)

Close Encounters
Close Encounters
3 What is your favourite John Williams soundtrack?
It’s a tie between The Empire Strikes Back and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

4 If you were invisible for a day what would be the first thing you would do?
There’s a good chance I’d immediately go outside in our backyard, sit down in the middle of our “Squirrel Village” we set up, surround myself with 10 lbs. of shelled peanuts, and patiently wait.

5 When was the last time you cried?
Last night when my husband and I were reminiscing about the day we met at Skywalker Ranch. (happy tears!)

Spider Clown
Spider Clown
6 What is your biggest fear?
I’m very fortunate that I have an extremely good memory. I can recall things from when I was a toddler. The thought of losing my memory and not knowing my loved ones and all we’ve shared is quite disturbing to me. (as far as phobias go I’m terrified of spiders and clowns. So a spider dressed as a clown would push me over the edge)

7 What was the most embarrassing moment of your life?
I was working an event for Disney and had no chance to eat or rest the entire day. After 10 hours of going non-stop I ended up fainting right in front of Jerry Bruckheimer.  (an assistant from Disney caught me before my head hit the floor. I was carried off to the side and propped up against the wall where they force fed me chocolate and Diet Coke till my blood sugar came back up. I’m still proud though that the event was a huge success and Jerry was very happy!)
Jerry Bruckheimer

8 Excluding search engines, what three website would you choose if no other websites were available?
9 Do you have any guilty pleasures?
The only one I’m willing to share is the fact that if I could only eat out at one place the rest of my life it would be McDonald’s ;)

10 What are you looking forward to the most in the next six months?
Everything

11 What is your most treasured possession?
He’s not a possession but I treasure my dearest Garet more than anything. (he’s the stormtrooper I married )

12 What is your biggest regret?
Life is too short to have regrets. I prefer to look up and forward rather that down and back.

13 what are you most proud of?
I got a bad feeling about this.
Following my passion: When I was a little girl I discovered Star Wars. It sparked my imagination and brought me an immense amount of happiness. For years I wished I’d someday meet Han Solo and find a boy that loved Star Wars as much as me. Over the years many people have tried to convince me that I needed to “grow up” and let go of my childhood fascinations. I have done my best to never let any one person or situation steal the joy away from me that I found when I was a child.  I followed my passion and because of that my life has been a galactic adventure and I’m thankful for that every day.  *and my wishes came true. I’ve met Harrison Ford twice and I married a boy that I met at Skywalker Ranch…he was dressed as a stormtrooper.

14 What is your favourite Spielberg movie?
Depending on the day it’s either Jaws (Because I had a massive crush on Roy Scheider), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (since I grew up in Indiana and saw when I was little. I was convinced the Indiana scenes were filmed in the field behind our house), E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (because I still keep Reeses Pieces on hand just in case) or Raiders of the Lost Ark (because Harrison Ford has always been my hero). (today it’s Raiders)

15 Where can people keep in touch or follow you?

Thanks to Consetta for taking the time to answer our questions.  I would love to hear more about that Jerry Bruckheimer incident.  Next week we have Ed Dolista from IndyCast, be sure to check it out and also check out our previous quick fire posts with Jimmy Mac, Chris Macht and Jim Beller.

too early to start talking The Wars.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, J.J. Abrams
had this to say about Star Wars VII:

''It's too early to even talk about it. We're very excited. The thing we're working on is finishing the 'Star Trek Into Darkness' movie which comes out in May.  It's a little bit like being in the middle of lunch and trying to think about what's for dinner.  We're in the middle of 'Star Trek' so to think about 'Star Wars' and the release date, all of that's far less of a concern than making a movie that's worth your time.''

The director for both Star Wars VII and Star Trek added that it was ''incredibly surreal'' to be asked to direct 'Star Wars', but insists it will not affect his work on the 'Star Trek' franchise.  He said:

''They're very distinct and separate entities.''

I respect J.J Abrams for keeping quiet about Star Wars until after May.  It wouldn't be fair on Trek fans.  But after May...fire when ready.
