Star Wars R2D2 Powered By Raspberry Pi

R2D2 Raspberry Pi
R2D2 Raspberry Pi

Take a look at this video.  A chinese Star Wars fan built a fully working R2D2 powered by nothing more than a Raspberry Pi.  If you're not familiar with a Raspberry Pi, its basically a credit card sized PC and costs around £25/$40.  The R2 unit was taken from an interactive toy, coupled with a few parts online and hey presto!  You have a fully functioning R2D2 from Star Wars.  The creator writes:

This is a birthday gift I built from scratch for my girlfriend :)
The hardware is made of a broken Interactive R2D2 toy and a bunch of cheap parts purchased online. Inside, the little guy is powered by a Raspberry Pi running Rasbian.

Features:
voice control (in English and Chinese, using PocketSphinx)
face recognition (using OpenCV)
motion detection
ultrasonic distance detection
audio message record and replay
sound play and TTS
rechargeable battery
wifi
